Killing of Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero in Biddeford, Maine 2026-07-13 • Biddeford, Maine (Pool Street / Hill Street)

Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero, a 26-year-old man originally from Colombia, was shot and killed on the morning of 13 July 2026 during a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation in Biddeford, Maine. Senator Angus King said Guerrero was not the operation's target; his wife and young daughter were at the scene, and the agents wore no body cameras. It is at least the 11th fatal shooting involving ICE or Border Patrol agents this administration; the FBI is expected to investigate.

ICE at your door. You do not have to open it. Ask for the warrant under the door. Only a judge's signature lets them in; an ICE form does not. Say: I do not consent to a search. I want to remain silent. Guide →
Stopped in the street. Ask: am I free to go? If yes, walk away calmly. You can stay silent and refuse a search. Do not run, do not lie, carry no false papers, sign nothing without a lawyer. Guide →
In your car. Pull over, stay calm, hands where they can be seen. Show your licence and registration if asked. You do not have to say where you were born or how you came here, and you can refuse a search of the car. Guide →
At work. ICE needs a judge's warrant to enter the non-public parts of a workplace, and your boss's permission is not yours. Do not run. Stay silent, ask for a lawyer, and never show papers that are not yours. Guide →
Court, school, hospital. Arrests now happen at courthouses. Go with someone, keep your lawyer's number on paper, know which courtroom. Schools and hospitals have their own rules: ask who is in charge before anyone talks. Guide →
Someone was taken. Write down the time, the place, the agents, the vehicles and the plates. ICE's locator needs an A-number, or a full name and country of birth. Call a legal aid line before anyone signs anything. Guide →
If you are detained. Say you want a lawyer and say nothing else. Do not sign what you do not understand, above all a "voluntary departure" form. You can call your consulate. Memorise one phone number now. Guide →
Filming. Filming officers in public is legal. Keep your distance and keep filming. Say the date, the place and what you see out loud. Blur bystanders, then send it here within the hour. Guide →
