Welcome to Gay USA and we really are gay today. I'm Andy Hum from New York and I'm Chris Cooper in Palm Springs, California.0:39

Hi Chris.0:40
40 seconds
Hey Andy. So good to are here again. You you've all seen it.0:46

The Democrats take back the US House and Senate as Trumpism is resoundingly rejected.0:54
54 seconds
LGBTQ candidates make history across the land. Big gains in Congress.1:00
1 minute
However, the Supreme Court is poised once again to empower religious bigots to discriminate against us and still receive government funding. Disgraceful.1:10
1 minute, 10 seconds
Trump's Department of Justice is suing a Maryland school district for treating trans students with dignity.1:16
1 minute, 16 seconds
Can't have that. In Rochester, New York, a trans cosplayer abducted by ICE and brutalized and thrown into a men's detention center.1:26
1 minute, 26 seconds
A New York dress designer wouldn't sell a wedding dress to a lesbian couple and told them to come to Jesus and obey him.1:33
1 minute, 33 seconds
Court fines are coming for her discrimination.1:37
1 minute, 37 seconds
Uh story we followed forever. Uh the owners of a St. Louis gay bar that were abused by police in 2023 finally get a $4.2 2 million settlement from the city.1:49
1 minute, 49 seconds
And here in Gay Gay USA, we've previously talked about um the Texas high school girl who was barred from playing a man's role in Little Shop of1:58
1 minute, 58 seconds
Horrors um the musical. And so she is suing and we're going to remember Patrick Stewart for his memorable acting and2:07

total solidarity with the LGBTQ community.2:11
2 minutes, 11 seconds
And you'll have to forgive me if I mangle the pronunciation here. Artist Bri sh Bry Charland, hopefully that's right,2:19

is memorializing the gay victims of Nazi barbarism with colorful portraits. And uh just before the election, Trump2:27
2 minutes, 27 seconds
announced he's honoring anti-LGBTQ bigot David Mamemoth, the playwright at the Kennedy Center Honors. But happy days2:35
2 minutes, 35 seconds
are indeed here again. Let's put up that graphic of the diversity that was elected. Uh do you have that uh uh Rich?Chapter 2: Congressional race analysis
2:43
2 minutes, 43 seconds
Yeah, look at that. Uh uh Kesha C, you want to sing your song? Chris [laughter] Andy's making me do this. So, apologies2:52
2 minutes, 52 seconds
[clears throat] for the voice you're about to hear. I got a Eli Ed to us turns blue. Who could ask for anything3:01
3 minutes, 1 second
more? Maine says Susan, girl, you're losing. Meet Troy Jackson. Who could ask3:07
3 minutes, 7 seconds
for anything more? Kino Hosa Taller Rico Texas also gets the clue. Sherid Brown3:16

ask for anything more3:26
3 minutes, 26 seconds
[applause and cheering]3:27
3 minutes, 27 seconds
and we're going to go over all these races, but this is America big win for diversity, equity, and inclusion uh from the voters.3:36
3 minutes, 36 seconds
So much winning. Let's just talk of winning that you can't imagine.3:41
3 minutes, 41 seconds
Let's just talk some of the top lines here. The hundreds of millions that Musk and the GOP spent on anti-trans were3:49
3 minutes, 49 seconds
repudiated repudiated. Now, they created a world of hate for trans people. And uh but Republicans will have to find a new3:57
3 minutes, 57 seconds
scapegoat now unless they decide to be human beings again. And let's be clear,4:03
4 minutes, 3 seconds
Musk spent, just Musk spent a quarter of a billion dollars on this election to virtually no effect, which is wonderful.4:12
4 minutes, 12 seconds
And you know, Republicans got a message for you. You kissed Trump's ass and he was the kiss of death. Six Sair4:21
4 minutes, 21 seconds
Tyrannis. And the the big question now is do do Republicans break from Trump to save their asses in 2028? You know, uh,4:30
4 minutes, 30 seconds
JD Vance has already said, "Oh, we lost because of this stupid war." Wow. Which he supported. Well, he didn't support4:37
4 minutes, 37 seconds
behind the scenes, but he supported publicly.4:40
4 minutes, 40 seconds
Well, a lot of the pundits are saying that JD Vance's career is over because he is so tied to Trump and all of this nonsense that has sent the Republican party to its doom.4:50
4 minutes, 50 seconds
He sided with Rama Swami on that horrible ad in the Ohio governor's race.4:56
4 minutes, 56 seconds
Yeah, there was no low to which JD Vance wouldn't stoop.5:00
5 minutes
Lots of gays reelected. Representative Robert Garcia, the California Democrat, he's poised to be the chair of the oversight committee. And his message to5:08
5 minutes, 8 seconds
Republicans is uh to the people in the administration, lawyer up.5:14
5 minutes, 14 seconds
And here's here's one of the great things. All year we talked about the gerrymandering that Republicans were5:22
5 minutes, 22 seconds
doing around the country. Trump said, "I demand you get me five more seats in Texas and this many more seats in Florida." All that backfired because5:31
5 minutes, 31 seconds
when they create what they wanted to do is create more districts where Trump won by 10 points. Okay? So that meant taking5:40
5 minutes, 40 seconds
some Republican voters from away from these big Republican districts and it all backfired because Trump lost by more5:47
5 minutes, 47 seconds
than 10 points in the Trump picks lost by more than 10 points.5:52
5 minutes, 52 seconds
Yeah. just to just to to make it to simplify it. They basically spread their votes too thin thinking they had enough padding to be able to do it and all it6:01
6 minutes, 1 second
did was weaken them in places where normally they would be secure. So it did indeed backfire tremendously. Meanwhile, it triggered places like California to6:09
6 minutes, 9 seconds
do their own redistricting in in retaliation and that didn't backfire tremendously.6:17
6 minutes, 17 seconds
And we're going to talk about that. And by the way, it's a huge majority for the Democrats in the House. And Hakee Jeff, whatever you think of him, will be the6:25
6 minutes, 25 seconds
first black speaker of the House of Representatives. History has been made.6:31
6 minutes, 31 seconds
And House of History made, lots of history. Um, women, more women in the Democratic caucus now, incoming6:38
6 minutes, 38 seconds
Democratic caucus, hundred of them for the first time ever. I think that's a something like a 60% increase in in 10 years or something like that. It's just6:47
6 minutes, 47 seconds
a huge number of women coming into office in the Congress.6:50
6 minutes, 50 seconds
Yes. And let's go down some of the races. As we said last week, New Hampshire had the chance to elect the6:58
6 minutes, 58 seconds
first outgay male US senator, uh, Gre Papus, and he won. He won. And here's what he had to say on election night.Chapter 3: Senate victories for LGBTQ
7:08
7 minutes, 8 seconds
I want to thank the guy next to me, my amazing husband, Van. [cheering]7:18
7 minutes, 18 seconds
[cheering]7:20
7 minutes, 20 seconds
How about it?7:27
7 minutes, 27 seconds
[cheering]7:32
7 minutes, 32 seconds
All right. The wrong person was on the ballot apparently, but he's always been by my side. And look, tonight, win, lose, or draw, I'm7:39
7 minutes, 39 seconds
the luckiest guy because I'm married to a man that I love.7:45
7 minutes, 45 seconds
[cheering]7:47
7 minutes, 47 seconds
And despite all the negative attacks and the lies, it's nice to know that love and truth prevailed tonight.7:57
7 minutes, 57 seconds
You know, just think back just 20 years.8:01
8 minutes, 1 second
That scene would be unthinkable that a gay man could win a a spot in the US8:08
8 minutes, 8 seconds
Senate and thank his husband next to him. Unthinkable. Well, uh, a couple of years ago, we elected the first black8:15
8 minutes, 15 seconds
president. A lot of people thought that would never happen. But here's the thing. When people are upset enough, they put aside those consider if they8:23
8 minutes, 23 seconds
have any reservations about things like that. They put it aside, you see, and they will and they will try to help themselves by electing people like this.8:32
8 minutes, 32 seconds
And they finally got rid of Susan Collins in Maine for beat her. I mean, she was always an impediment to progress and we were worried about that thing.8:42
8 minutes, 42 seconds
And now the the the Democrats have at least 55 seats in the US Senate. So they8:50
8 minutes, 50 seconds
and the the great thing about that is they've got enough padding that they can have, you know, one or two defections on8:56
8 minutes, 56 seconds
a vote and still have that vote pass putting the aside the filibuster.9:02
9 minutes, 2 seconds
Yes. And that and that means Fenerman from who is a jerk from Pennsylvania, Democrat who's who will be out in two9:09
9 minutes, 9 seconds
years. Uh can't cannot like swing things the way Kristen Cinema and Joe Mansion used to do for the Democrats. Texas,9:17
9 minutes, 17 seconds
what a sweep, you know, we never people never thought it would happen. Jim Terico beat the exraable anti-LGBTQ9:24
9 minutes, 24 seconds
bigot Ken Paxton. Musk alone spent nearly 500 million to elect Republicans.9:30
9 minutes, 30 seconds
250 million total in Texas and he was repudiated. So, uh, Jim Talerico, uh, congratulations, young guy. 37, I think.9:42
9 minutes, 42 seconds
But I was just going to say it doesn't stop there because, you know, people always say, "Oh, well, Texas is gerrymandered to be red, but it's really9:51
9 minutes, 51 seconds
purple." It's not purple anymore. It's blue. The depth of the wind there. In in Texas, for example, there were 109:58
9 minutes, 58 seconds
statewide judicial uh uh uh uh contests, and Democrats took all 10 of them. The10:05
10 minutes, 5 seconds
uh uh Texas Supreme Court, which was completely Republican, all nine seats in one election, has gone to five10:14
10 minutes, 14 seconds
Republican seats and four Democratic seats.10:16
10 minutes, 16 seconds
So, that's how much of a change there was in this blue tsunami. Um just quite startling. Texas in particular,10:23
10 minutes, 23 seconds
the movement of uh Latino voters back to Democrats happened and obviously because of the way ICE terrorized Latino communities from across the country.10:35
10 minutes, 35 seconds
These were their these were it was either them or their neighbors who were being terrorized. It's outrageous. And they put a stop to it with this uh10:44
10 minutes, 44 seconds
Texas was a clean sweep of all statewide offices as was Georgia. Another clean sweep of all statewide offices. Well, we'll get to that. Well, let's finish10:52
10 minutes, 52 seconds
with the Senate because like the pickup for Sherid Brown is back in gonna be back in the Senate. He def defeated John Houston who was Trump's favorite ass.11:01
11 minutes, 1 second
And I use the word advisingly because that's what Trump kept admiring his ass.11:06
11 minutes, 6 seconds
Uh it's ridiculous. Sher Brown is a great guy and he's one in there. It's a pickup. And then uh Abdul Elsed in11:16
11 minutes, 16 seconds
Michigan held the Senate seat for the Democrats there. That's an amazing win because it's the first statewide win of11:23
11 minutes, 23 seconds
an unabashedly progressive candidate, let alone uh an Islamic candidate, a Muslim. Um, and so that is huge that he11:32
11 minutes, 32 seconds
managed to put pull that off and in the face of some vicious disgusting Islamophobia. And he said, "I can't wait till January.11:40
11 minutes, 40 seconds
JD Vance is going to have to swear me in under the Constitution because he's the president of the Senate as the vice president." And the other thing he said11:47
11 minutes, 47 seconds
was uh because Trump was always, you know, deliberately mangling his name and calling him Muhammad and he said, "Oh, you know, I don't care what President11:55
11 minutes, 55 seconds
Trump calls me. He can just call me Senator from now." [laughter] Yes, he's he's a brilliant guy. He's great for the party. And then in12:03
12 minutes, 3 seconds
Georgia, we talk about Georgia, John Oaf. John Oaf won resoundingly in Georgia for the Senate re-election. And12:10
12 minutes, 10 seconds
now he can run for president because Kesha Lance Bottoms was elected governor and she can replace him with a Democrat. That's important.12:18
12 minutes, 18 seconds
Yeah. Clean sweep in Georgia. Um what else do we have? What pick up pick up in North Carolina? Roy Cooper, the governor is now the senator.12:27
12 minutes, 27 seconds
Uh oh, and we've picked up a a slew of House seats there in in North Carolina.12:33
12 minutes, 33 seconds
The problem is that the legislature is still gerry gerrymandered for the Republicans, but when they have to vote next for governor, maybe that could be12:41
12 minutes, 41 seconds
fixed. And then Kansas have hasn't elected a Democrat since 1932Chapter 4: Statewide and local contests
12:48
12 minutes, 48 seconds
when FDR was swept into office and they elected the Reverend Adam Hamilton. And12:55
12 minutes, 55 seconds
Iowa is sending a uh a Democrat to the Senate for the first time in Josh, a person with disabilities. Uh13:03
13 minutes, 3 seconds
they are in a wheelchair, ran a ran a a great campaign. And again, I know for some of you, you know, some of these13:10
13 minutes, 10 seconds
candidates are people who distance themselves on trans issues to an extent, and that's bad, and we should lobby them to get on board and be more supportive.13:18
13 minutes, 18 seconds
But they're going to help the Democratic majority.13:22
13 minutes, 22 seconds
South Carolina. [laughter] The late closet case, Lindsey Graham, was succeeded by Democrat Annie Andrews13:29
13 minutes, 29 seconds
for the US Senate, defeating uh Lindseay's feckless sister, Darlene, who was backed by Trump. Trump couldn't pick13:37
13 minutes, 37 seconds
him this year. Trump tried to stop Andrews by calling her Andrews.13:43
13 minutes, 43 seconds
Oh, so mature, Donald. And that anti-trans trend strategy did not work.13:50
13 minutes, 50 seconds
That's the delicious thing is seeing all those anti-trans strategies fail miserably. Um, do we want to uh talk13:58
13 minutes, 58 seconds
about the state legislatores yet or do you We're going to get to it. Uh, some others. There's still a couple of others outstanding. We don't know what's going to happen to Alaska yet for the Senate.14:08
14 minutes, 8 seconds
By the way, Ed Marky won in a landslide in Massachusetts, re-election to the US Senate, and he was a stalwart supporter14:15
14 minutes, 15 seconds
of LGBTQ rights, particularly transgender rights. And then, you know,14:21
14 minutes, 21 seconds
come on, Mississippi. Scott Colum, a a black man who's a a Democrat, is is14:28
14 minutes, 28 seconds
ahead of Cindy Hyde Smith, that wretched in Mississippi. He okay first of all yes14:36
14 minutes, 36 seconds
she is absolutely awful but ahead in this case means that he's got 48.714:43
14 minutes, 43 seconds
uh uh% of the vote I think or no something like 48.7 and she's got 48.6% of the vote the difference in percentage is 0.01% 01%.14:53
14 minutes, 53 seconds
The idea that is in Mississippi.14:57
14 minutes, 57 seconds
I know, but there's and there's only a hundred votes separating them. So, this thing is gonna come down the wire, right?15:04
15 minutes, 4 seconds
Only takes one. See, for those of you, you know, I'm wearing my I voted sticker. I voted early. Uh, if you think15:11
15 minutes, 11 seconds
your vote doesn't make a difference, it sure does. And you know, black people of course came out in droves and they're15:19
15 minutes, 19 seconds
they're a big population in Mississippi and and in many states and totally offended by what the Republicans and the15:26
15 minutes, 26 seconds
Supreme Court did to their voting rights and to their districts and to their ability to elect representatives and that made them march to the polls.15:36
15 minutes, 36 seconds
This is what my people do. You try to take away our hard one voting rights that our ancestors paid for with in15:43
15 minutes, 43 seconds
blood and we will wait however long we have to wait in the sun in the mud in the rain to vote because we know what15:52
15 minutes, 52 seconds
that vote means. I saw these ridiculously long lines in Ohio, especially in black majority districts16:00
16 minutes
that where they eliminate polling places. They did this in Texas as well. They're just scum, you know,16:08
16 minutes, 8 seconds
the way I mean, voting should be easy. I voted by mail. Uh, it just should be easy. All right, let's talk about the House. Now, some of these races aren't16:17
16 minutes, 17 seconds
settled, but Marne von Wilpert in San Diego, who we told you a lot about, is way ahead in her district. We have a16:25
16 minutes, 25 seconds
picture of Barney. Uh, she's way ahead in that House race. Uh, she's replacingChapter 5: House candidates and impact
16:32
16 minutes, 32 seconds
the exacerbable Daryl Issa. She beat another She's looks like she's beating another a Republican.16:40
16 minutes, 40 seconds
Yeah. And full disclosure, I was knocking on doors for her campaign the day before yesterday. Actually got to meet her briefly. Uh um but uh yeah, I think 52% of the vote is in right now.16:52
16 minutes, 52 seconds
So it she is way ahead, but since I don't know where that other 52% is going to come from, we can't nobody's calling it yet, but she's ahead.17:00
17 minutes
She had quite a story. She got a she got a breast cancer diagnosis during the campaign and she's well now. But you17:06
17 minutes, 6 seconds
know, but Marty had served in the Peace Corps in Batswana, helped establish a legal clinic for people facing HIV17:14
17 minutes, 14 seconds
discrimination in Mississippi, and she worked at the National Labor Relations Board. She's going to be a great asset.17:20
17 minutes, 20 seconds
She's also a great friend of uh our our retired co-host, Ed Northr.17:26
17 minutes, 26 seconds
And have we mentioned that she's a bisexual and married to a woman?17:29
17 minutes, 29 seconds
Oh, yes. That's what we're trying to talk about here. That we're trying to talk about here mostly the out LGBTQ people and she is out by and out gay is17:38
17 minutes, 38 seconds
Scott Weiner in San Francisco uh uh vying to replace Nancy Pelosi. Now Nancy17:45
17 minutes, 45 seconds
supported Connie Chan. It's not totally settled but he's been he's leading like 5743 something like that with half the17:53
17 minutes, 53 seconds
vote in because it takes a long time to count in California. They're slow. Uh then uh this is a shocker in Indiana.18:04
18 minutes, 4 seconds
You know, long shot JD Ford is elected to the first outgay member of Congress from Indiana. Uh uh unseating a GOP18:12
18 minutes, 12 seconds
incumbent. Look at his t-shirt. Protect trans kids. He's the real thing. Yeah.18:21
18 minutes, 21 seconds
Uh Arizona.18:24
18 minutes, 24 seconds
Uh in Arizona, um Representative Juan Ciscomani uh lost. He's a Republican and18:30
18 minutes, 30 seconds
he lost out to Joanna Mendoza. So that's another win for the Democrats.18:36
18 minutes, 36 seconds
It's a flip. And then in where are we in the US Virgin Islands? Uh Janelle Sro S18:46
18 minutes, 46 seconds
Au W was elected to be the non- voting representative to the US House for the Virgin Islands. She's out and she wanted18:54
18 minutes, 54 seconds
a landslide in the Virgin Islands. You know, we think of, you know, the the the Caribbean, a lot of anti-gay stuff from19:01
19 minutes, 1 second
Jamaica and that kind of stuff, but, you know, it wasn't an issue there. And now in Massachusetts, all nine se House19:09
19 minutes, 9 seconds
seats, is probably true before, are held by Democrats. Meanwhile, in Delaware, um, our often talked about trans19:18
19 minutes, 18 seconds
representative, Sarah McBride, won easily re-election to the House.19:23
19 minutes, 23 seconds
Let's talk about governors. We're worried about Tina Cotch, the out lesbian governor of Oregon, and she did19:31
19 minutes, 31 seconds
win re-election. Not by a landslide, but she she did win.19:36
19 minutes, 36 seconds
Ohio. Uh Amy Actton, thank God after all the viciousness in that campaign. Um be19:43
19 minutes, 43 seconds
it Vivec Ramiswami. Um and uh she did not take his concession call and I19:51
19 minutes, 51 seconds
wouldn't either after the the dirty thing he pulled. Um that was the ad using uh her mother against her when19:58
19 minutes, 58 seconds
she's the victim of childhood abuse, which is why she's estranged from her mother. and Texas gets its gets their20:05
20 minutes, 5 seconds
first uh Latina uh governor, Latino of any kind. She vanquished the wicked GregChapter 6: Gubernatorial election review
20:12
20 minutes, 12 seconds
Abbott. That is so sweet because he's such a vicious anti-LGBTQ bigot. Uh and she was outspent 10 to one, folks.20:23
20 minutes, 23 seconds
People power beats money every time.20:27
20 minutes, 27 seconds
That's what happened in New York with mom Donnie. It always prevails.20:32
20 minutes, 32 seconds
I don't know. that always prevails, but it certainly is prevailing a lot right now. Um, including David Crowley, who will become the first black governor in Wisconsin history.20:43
20 minutes, 43 seconds
And then Kea Lance Bottoms, uh, the former male mayor of Atlanta will step up to become the first black woman governor in US history.20:53
20 minutes, 53 seconds
A state of a state of correct because there's the Virgin Islands, they elected a black21:00
21 minutes
woman also as the governor. uh in oh and there's there's a footnote to that which is that uh now OAF can run21:09
21 minutes, 9 seconds
for president. This is important when you think about these mechanics because if OAF does run for president then there's a Democrat as the governor of21:17
21 minutes, 17 seconds
Georgia who replaces chooses his replacement in the Senate and so it will stay that Senate seat even if OAF leaves21:25
21 minutes, 25 seconds
to become president um will stay in Democratic hands. It's a very important consideration. And in Iowa, Democrat Rob21:32
21 minutes, 32 seconds
Sand flipped that. That's he's the first Democratic governor in 20 years. In Nevada, Aaron Ford defeated the incumbent Republican Joe Lombardo.21:43
21 minutes, 43 seconds
That's a flip. Um Katie Hobbs prevailed in Arizona. That's a hold. And uh in in21:52
21 minutes, 52 seconds
Alaska, the Democrat Jonathan Christ Tommpkins was elected governor. So, and then you know22:01
22 minutes, 1 second
there's there's some some some not unexpected news which is that in in Alabama uh somebody like Tommy Tom Tommy22:08
22 minutes, 8 seconds
Tuberville uh one of our betars um uh still won has still retained his22:15
22 minutes, 15 seconds
seat but um the challenger Democrat Doug Jones kept it very close and similar thing uh in Florida for governor of22:22
22 minutes, 22 seconds
Florida um Byron Donald's won um but his challenger kept extremely close, which22:29
22 minutes, 29 seconds
is really bad news for Republicans. If you have close races for governor in Alabama and Florida, you're in trouble.22:37
22 minutes, 37 seconds
Yes. And in terms of out people, Mora Healey, the governor of Massachusetts, won in a landslide for reelection as22:45
22 minutes, 45 seconds
governor. uh not not lesbian but uh uh our governor Kathy Hokll won in a landslide over a very anti-LGBTQ22:54
22 minutes, 54 seconds
Republican this guy Bruce Blakeman. He did not even win his home county where he's the county executive Nassau County where we're from.23:04
23 minutes, 4 seconds
Right.23:04
23 minutes, 4 seconds
Yes, we are. Exactly. And then that Virgin Islands win. Stacy Plasket will become the first woman elected governor23:13
23 minutes, 13 seconds
in the US Virgin Islands. And I guess you I guess she and uh Kesha can have a hair pulling fight over who gets the the23:22
23 minutes, 22 seconds
real title of first black woman elected governor.23:24
23 minutes, 24 seconds
Couple of couple of LGBTQ notes. And we'll have more of this next week. I'll be co-hosting with Don Andis. Uh, and by23:32
23 minutes, 32 seconds
the way, that's going to be on a Tuesday if you watch live because the studios coming. So, next Tuesday, we're going to be live at 7 p.m. if you watch there,23:40
23 minutes, 40 seconds
Jackie. Uh, but the show will be on on all of its regular times. But in Rhode Island, we have a picture of Kimberly23:47

Claybourne Pel from the past never came out of the closet. She won 66 to 34%. All right. Uh and then go ahead.24:04
24 minutes, 4 seconds
In Georgia, um voters sent Bent Bentley Hudgens to the state house in that flip24:11
24 minutes, 11 seconds
of the Georgia state house. So it is now controlled by Democrats, making Bentley the uh uh the longtime organizer the24:18
24 minutes, 18 seconds
first out transgender and non-binary person elected to the to the Georgia General Assembly. and she won 94 to6%.24:29
24 minutes, 29 seconds
That's better than a Manhattan win. And she al she will also become the first Japanese American member of that legislature.24:36
24 minutes, 36 seconds
Yeah. Uh she said, "I wanted to really resonate with the shared experiences that I have with my neighbors." Uh24:44
24 minutes, 44 seconds
again, big shift for Latino voters that and nowhere24:50
24 minutes, 50 seconds
major Latino counties move more than 22 percentage points against Republican Senate candidates compared to 2024.25:00
25 minutes
And it's bigger than any other group. I mean, we didn't have very far to go as LGBTQ people because we were the25:06
25 minutes, 6 seconds
becoming close to black people in terms of our support for Democratic candidates. Black people are still the25:14
25 minutes, 14 seconds
kings and queens, you know, but uh we're we're very much I haven't seen any actual LGBTQ voter statistics yet, but25:22
25 minutes, 22 seconds
we know who's offending us. Uh viewers feeling the joy yet? I hope so.Chapter 8: Anti-trans campaign failure
25:31
25 minutes, 31 seconds
Hold on to it. I feel I feel a thousand pounds lighter and I believe me I can stand to lose the weight. Uh young men25:38
25 minutes, 38 seconds
voted for Trump by one point young men voted for Trump for one point in in 2024. Now 65% of young men went with Democrats.25:48
25 minutes, 48 seconds
And Andy has already alluded to the fact that so much was uh devoted to anti-trans ads in the midterms. Some $200 million worth. And these ads25:58
25 minutes, 58 seconds
included 217,000 TV ads that presented equal rights for transgender people as a threat and accused Democrats of supporting them.26:08
26 minutes, 8 seconds
And in fact, um you may remember that in Texas um there were those flyers distri distributed underhandedly purportedly by26:17
26 minutes, 17 seconds
an actual um transup supportive group in Wyoming. And suddenly they were flooding uh uh uh Texas with those brochures.26:26
26 minutes, 26 seconds
They did actually trace down where those were coming from. And of course, it was a dirty trick of a Republican26:34
26 minutes, 34 seconds
organization. I think it was a a women's organization. And I actually had it written down, but I can't find Oh, no. I can't find it at the moment. Um, but so26:43
26 minutes, 43 seconds
they they figured out who actually was behind sending those an uh those protrans flyers all across Texas to try26:51
26 minutes, 51 seconds
to provoke some animosity. We can say with finality, it doesn't work. It doesn't work anymore. It, you know,26:59
26 minutes, 59 seconds
Trump makes it makes it his favorite issue. Oh, 90% of people support me on this. And by the way, we're going to talk about some uh you know, uh wait a27:09
27 minutes, 9 seconds
minute, where where do I have my list here of the uh yeah uh on some of the referenda? All right.27:18
27 minutes, 18 seconds
We did not do so well on on on trans rights in Colorado.27:25
27 minutes, 25 seconds
They passed uh they a ban on trans athletes in school sports, college and high school, and they prohibit gender27:33
27 minutes, 33 seconds
confirmation surgery for minors. Now, these ballot initiatives were designed to boost the Republican vote and and of27:42
27 minutes, 42 seconds
course, Colorado voted Democrat, but they also voted for these things. So, we're not they're not totally on board on these things. Although Missouri,27:51
27 minutes, 51 seconds
they put a referendum up to say, "Do you want to repeal the right to abortion?" Because the voters27:59
27 minutes, 59 seconds
approved the right to abortion over the legislature and do you want to ban in the same thing, do you want to ban transition care for minors? And that28:08
28 minutes, 8 seconds
lost because they wanted to ban abortion. And they also uh Missouri voters I mean again they've been fairly28:15
28 minutes, 15 seconds
Republican over the years but they raised the threshold for state for the state legislature to repeal a voter approved initiative unless 80% of the28:24
28 minutes, 24 seconds
legislative legislature vote to change send it to the ballot. So they're voters are asserting themselves there. In Idaho28:32
28 minutes, 32 seconds
however the right to abortion failed 56 to 44%. Illinois, you know, we heard that California didn't pass their billionaires tax, right?28:42
28 minutes, 42 seconds
I didn't know it didn't pass. I wasn't I didn't hear that.28:44
28 minutes, 44 seconds
Didn't pass. But in Illinois, they uh 81% voted for a millionaire's tax of [laughter] 3%.28:53
28 minutes, 53 seconds
Well, and while we're talking about referenda, um in Virginia, uh the Oh, yes.28:59
28 minutes, 59 seconds
the referendum to uh remove bans on same-sex marriage from their constitution passed. And why this isChapter 9: Referenda and state issues
29:07
29 minutes, 7 seconds
important is because, you know, if the Supreme Court at some point decides to backtrack on uh on the the two rulings29:15
29 minutes, 15 seconds
that are the underpinning for same-sex marriage, um then if they did that, then these laws in on state books would come29:22
29 minutes, 22 seconds
back into effect. So, this actually removes it from Virginia. So, it's fantastic that that won.29:28
29 minutes, 28 seconds
They also in Virginia restored the rights of felons to vote when released and they uh in the state constitution29:37
29 minutes, 37 seconds
they enshrined a right to reproductive freedom in Virginia. [clears throat] I went to the University of Virginia. It was quite the conservative state when I29:45
29 minutes, 45 seconds
was down there. But it has changed. Uh Arizona rejected a constitutional amendment29:52
29 minutes, 52 seconds
targeting DEI. Arizona And where else do we have some? No, that29:59
29 minutes, 59 seconds
that's Oh, Montana uh banned corporations and nonprofits and unions from doing business in the state if they make political contributions.30:10
30 minutes, 10 seconds
So, well, but but also Montana is sending a a US House representative as a US House30:17
30 minutes, 17 seconds
repres representative a Democrat for the first time in like a billion years in evolution. Well, of course, they had30:25
30 minutes, 25 seconds
a Democratic senator up until not too long ago, but the that guy, what is his name?30:32
30 minutes, 32 seconds
Um, for for gas he he he the this is they have two districts in Montana. He won Democrat30:41
30 minutes, 41 seconds
and he was unapologetic about his support for trans rights. He he wouldn't take the bait. So many Democrats got scared and said, "Oh, I'm against it.30:50
30 minutes, 50 seconds
you know, uh, don't try to pin that on me, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.30:55
30 minutes, 55 seconds
So, before we leave elections, I just want to, um, quickly mention that, you know, a lot of these state legislatores for a long time have had Republican31:04
31 minutes, 4 seconds
supermajorities, which means that, you know, they can basically do whatever they want, the Republicans, because there's no one who has enough votes to31:13
31 minutes, 13 seconds
stop them. Well, Republican supermajorities are now broken after this election in Florida, Texas, South31:21
31 minutes, 21 seconds
Carolina, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Utah, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas,31:27
31 minutes, 27 seconds
Indiana, and Ohio. So important. So important. So important. Because when31:34
31 minutes, 34 seconds
these states statewide elect a Democratic governor, the legislature, Republicans get busy about taking away31:42
31 minutes, 42 seconds
all his or her powers. They did that in North Carolina to Roy Moore. And that's backfiring on them.31:49
31 minutes, 49 seconds
Roy Moore. Roy Roy Cooper.31:51
31 minutes, 51 seconds
Roy Cooper. What did I say? Oh, Roy Moore was of course that Roy Moore. Roy Moore is the guy who you31:58
31 minutes, 58 seconds
know judge like little girls and in in he lost to Doug Jones for a Senate seat32:06
32 minutes, 6 seconds
for a while and and Doug Jones by the way he did lose in Alabama you know in his race but he's still got a future32:13
32 minutes, 13 seconds
nationwide I think in the party. He's a wonderful wonderful guy and he is he has an outgay son.32:19
32 minutes, 19 seconds
All right. And that whole Haley Stevens thing at the last minute in in uh Michigan, this ridiculous turncoat thing32:27
32 minutes, 27 seconds
at the last minute, you know? I mean, I'm just going to say it. I mean, her main motivation was her boyfriend.32:34
32 minutes, 34 seconds
They're both very tied up with Apac and they went against the Muslim guy, you know, who was is is is critical of32:42
32 minutes, 42 seconds
Israel and it was just disgraceful. And I think it I think it helped him ultimately. I mean, I think it did. It galvanized Democrats,32:51
32 minutes, 51 seconds
even the ones who had been, you know, sort of withholding their full support like Schumer and Nancy Pelosi. But when this happened, everybody gathered32:58
32 minutes, 58 seconds
together. Um, and and her career is over. I mean, it's done. Expelled from the Michigan from the Michigan Democrats.33:06
33 minutes, 6 seconds
Here's what pe here's what these malignant narcissists like Haley Stevens and Donald Trump don't understand. You got a lot of vote in votes in an33:15
33 minutes, 15 seconds
election, but that doesn't mean people will follow you into hell. They're not yours. Voters have independence and they33:22
33 minutes, 22 seconds
demonstrated it yesterday. We demonstrated it yesterday. So, uh, you know, so even though there's still MAGA33:29
33 minutes, 29 seconds
Republicans who are, you know, racist and sexist and homophobic and transphobic, they're also very upset33:38
33 minutes, 38 seconds
about what they're paying for gas these days and how you've upended their lives.33:43
33 minutes, 43 seconds
So, they can't eat their bigotry and they they either stayed home or they went against you.33:50
33 minutes, 50 seconds
And a couple of more uh final notes on the election. Um, the Democrats actually have trifectas of control now. In otherChapter 10: Future political strategy
33:57
33 minutes, 57 seconds
words, rather than breaking up Republican supermajorities, we've got control, not necessarily supermajorities, but control of the34:04
34 minutes, 4 seconds
state house and the governorship in four states, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Arizona. That's all new with this election. And as a34:13
34 minutes, 13 seconds
footnote, Mike Johnson, the current speaker of the house, has decided that he will not be running for minority34:21
34 minutes, 21 seconds
leader once the I can go back to preaching. Maybe he'll finally decide, you know, to come out since it seems to work well for Chris34:28
34 minutes, 28 seconds
Papus, uh, you know, etc. I'm not kidding about all this stuff. I mean, there's a lot of closet cases that have been elected over the years, even though Chris Papus is the first outgay male.34:39
34 minutes, 39 seconds
We've had three lesbians and Tammy Baldwin is still in there, but we had, you know, we had closet cases in the 19th century. Uh, James Buchanan and his34:49
34 minutes, 49 seconds
partner were in the Senate. Uh, William King, uh, he was the he became, you know, the president pro, he was also a34:57
34 minutes, 57 seconds
vice president. They were lovers. I'm not making this stuff up. You could look Google it. Google it. Okay. All right.35:04
35 minutes, 4 seconds
Um, I I love the way, of course, I don't watch 60 Minutes anymore. I love the way that, you know, and they brought in this35:12
35 minutes, 12 seconds
horrible right-winger, Ross Truth or whatever his name is, and he kept used to be a columnist for the Times, I think. Yes.35:21
35 minutes, 21 seconds
He just he he's not a he's not a journalist. He ju he just wanted to argue. He wanted to have a debate with Elsad. He didn't ask him any fair35:29
35 minutes, 29 seconds
questions. and Elsa stood up to him on the trans on when he was transbaiting him. Um he said it's uh unreal. He also35:39
35 minutes, 39 seconds
said come on you don't want this in the schools Ross. You think kids don't have access to the internet and can learn35:46
35 minutes, 46 seconds
anything they want about any of this stuff? You're you know you're an idiot. I mean that's that's the other thing.35:53
35 minutes, 53 seconds
Some some people are some right-wingers are complaining. I don't want my kids to hear about this transgender stuff and they heard about nothing but transgender36:02
36 minutes, 2 seconds
stuff on the airwaves because of Republicans. Yes.36:07
36 minutes, 7 seconds
Well, you may be asking yourself, what do I do with all this joy? What do I do with all this momentum?Chapter 11: Judicial and policy battles
36:14
36 minutes, 14 seconds
And my advice, what I'm going to strongly suggest is that we start working now towards making these gains36:22
36 minutes, 22 seconds
further and permanent by fighting for DC statehood. I know for those of you who are watching District of Columbia,36:28
36 minutes, 28 seconds
the District they they have non voting representative in the House.36:33
36 minutes, 33 seconds
Exactly. So nobody in the Senate, right? Sorry, nobody. No, nobody in the Senate.36:38
36 minutes, 38 seconds
Whereas places like, you know, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, all these rural, underpopulated states get two36:45
36 minutes, 45 seconds
senators each, which drags our our country to the right when it's not it's not there. So, um, there's two things36:54
36 minutes, 54 seconds
you have to know about statehood just, uh, off the top of your head. Number one, DC has more people than all-white37:01
37 minutes, 1 second
Wyoming and all-white Vermont. And number two, most people think it takes a constitutional amendment to make DC a37:08
37 minutes, 8 seconds
state. It does not. All it takes is of the passage of um of a law by Congress to shrink the boundaries of the district37:17
37 minutes, 17 seconds
because the boundaries of the district are always determined by law. They they've changed the boundaries in the past. So it can be done if we start37:25
37 minutes, 25 seconds
working for it now because the next time we have the trifecta of federal control which I expect will be in 2028 after the37:31
37 minutes, 31 seconds
2028 election. We can if we have done our our job and gotten this in place we can get DC statehood and add two blue new senators virtually in perpetuity.37:44
37 minutes, 44 seconds
Plus give a voice to all the largely black and brown people in Washington DC who have been taxed with no37:50
37 minutes, 50 seconds
representation for so long. So you can uh uh get active by uh going to dcvote.orglet37:58
37 minutes, 58 seconds
DC vote. Um that is for an organization called DC vote. And right now they are just gathering people from all 50 states38:07
38 minutes, 7 seconds
who are in favor of DC statehood because they can't do it in DC because they don't have representation. So they've got to rely on us in other states to38:15
38 minutes, 15 seconds
fight for them. So um and you'll that's just it doesn't cost anything. It's just signing up for their emails.38:21
38 minutes, 21 seconds
And uh again, it may mean getting rid of the filibuster. Republicans are not going to want this because DC is going38:28
38 minutes, 28 seconds
to elect Democrats forever. Although that anything can change. DC used to have Republican council members.38:35
38 minutes, 35 seconds
And you don't even have to get rid of the filibuster. You can change the filibuster as they have done. And very recently, they changed the rules of the38:43
38 minutes, 43 seconds
filibuster. So if you change it so that statehood issues are no longer subject to the filibuster, then you can pass DC statehood with a simple majority.38:52
38 minutes, 52 seconds
I mean, the filibuster was gotten rid of by Democrats because the Republicans would not conf were blocking any Obama38:59
38 minutes, 59 seconds
appointees to the bench or to even to his cabinet at one point. So they said, "We got to get rid of the filibuster for that." And they did. Not for the Supreme39:08
39 minutes, 8 seconds
Court. And then when the Republicans came in under Trump, we're getting rid of it for the Supreme Court, too. just for the Supreme Court and they put in39:15
39 minutes, 15 seconds
all these far-right wingers. I actually think that I wish we had the uh filibuster for Supreme Court because it39:24
39 minutes, 24 seconds
pushed things towards, you know, more moderate judges and I think more moderate judges even are fairer39:33
39 minutes, 33 seconds
obviously than these right-wing nuts that they appointed. Well, my point is simply this, that whether you like the filibuster or don't like the filibuster,39:40
39 minutes, 40 seconds
you don't have to get rid of it entirely in order to make DC a state. So, but that's something we're all going to have to work on over the next two years.39:48
39 minutes, 48 seconds
And we do need to reform the Supreme Court. There are a lot of proposals out there for that. And again, all you have to do with that is change the judiciary act, which has been modified many times.39:58
39 minutes, 58 seconds
The numbers, they can change the numbers of Supreme Court justices. What they can't change is terms, term limits because that's in the constitution that40:06
40 minutes, 6 seconds
they can serve for life. It's ridiculous. I mean, I often cite the fact that George Washington appointed six justices on his first day in office40:14
40 minutes, 14 seconds
and they were confirmed the next day and most of them didn't stick stick around for more than a year or two. I mean, it was just a very different uh feeling40:21
40 minutes, 21 seconds
about government. But the Supreme Court is still killing us uh in this case. So,Chapter 12: Civil rights and legal cases
40:28
40 minutes, 28 seconds
Colorado has this law, right? Uh no no no program will will fund uh what is it daycare?40:39
40 minutes, 39 seconds
They'll they'll they'll uh provide uh state funding for um for education. Yes.40:46
40 minutes, 46 seconds
Um uh uh private or public so long as you adhere to the state's non-discrimination laws. In other words, they don't want to be giving money40:54
40 minutes, 54 seconds
public money to people who are going to selectively use it and not make it available to everybody. It's public money.41:01
41 minutes, 1 second
And this Supreme Court, the right-wingers were horrified. Oh, you you're asking them to compromise their religious faith. Now, they they weren't41:09
41 minutes, 9 seconds
saying anything about what you were going to teach at the school. They have they said, "You have to treat people equally." Now, what if what if these41:17
41 minutes, 17 seconds
schools don't believe in interracial marriage and they say, "We're not going to uh we're not going to elect, you know, we're not going to have kids in41:26
41 minutes, 26 seconds
this school who have interracial parents. It's against our religion. They could do that now, right?41:32
41 minutes, 32 seconds
And they're just I mean, again, understand what they're saying. The schools were saying, "We don't want kids here who have lesbian parents or gay41:40
41 minutes, 40 seconds
parents because we're against same-sex marriage. You're not being asked to affirm same-sex marriage. These are children. What are you doing? It's41:48
41 minutes, 48 seconds
absolutely disgusting and it it dehumanizes us." And one of the liberal justices, I forget which, in the41:55
41 minutes, 55 seconds
questioning, actually made the point, okay, this doesn't sound like you're protecting the rights of religious42:03
42 minutes, 3 seconds
people because you're actually giving them additional rights that nobody else gets because nobody else gets to discriminate. Why do you get to42:10
42 minutes, 10 seconds
discriminate? And let me just say it's a it's going to be a terrible decision.42:14
42 minutes, 14 seconds
But let me just say that New York State and New York City under liberal mayors and governors, they give a ton of money to anti-gay religious groups to perform42:22
42 minutes, 22 seconds
social services. It is a disgrace. You shouldn't be giving contracts to deliver services for the public by organizations42:32
42 minutes, 32 seconds
that discriminate. But this this is certainly I mean Catholic Church Catholics is that what is this what you want to be known for that we hate gay42:41
42 minutes, 41 seconds
people and oh but you know of course you know the the bishops and say oh we welcome everybody no you don't you're42:48
42 minutes, 48 seconds
saying don't come here don't come to our school damn it42:54
42 minutes, 54 seconds
[laughter]42:55
42 minutes, 55 seconds
come on Catholics wake up and Jews and Muslims everybody all right but don't let that sour your joy for today just take that joy and43:03
43 minutes, 3 seconds
keep it and harness it and go forward with it and do more. Okay. All right. The devil never sleeps.43:10
43 minutes, 10 seconds
The DOJ, Department of Justice, they're suing a Mer a Maryland school district for allegedly facilitating the secret43:18
43 minutes, 18 seconds
transitioning of children's gender identities at school. And this school is saying, "We're just trying to treat these kids with dignity and fairly, and43:26
43 minutes, 26 seconds
that the justice the quote unquote justice department is going after them." Yeah. Apparently, there was a student who they're anonymously referring to as43:35
43 minutes, 35 seconds
Mary Doe who wanted to be referred to by a male uh pronoun, a male name, and the43:42
43 minutes, 42 seconds
parents were not apprised of this situation. So, they got up in arms and um43:49
43 minutes, 49 seconds
perhaps relevantly, the official name of the student never changed. It was still the same official, you know, legal name,43:57
43 minutes, 57 seconds
but it's just the name that the kid wanted to be called, you know, in in school. Hey, listen. My youn my sister's44:04
44 minutes, 4 seconds
youngest kid, you know, was born as a female named child and they've chosen44:11
44 minutes, 11 seconds
the name a a genderneutral or even male name and that's what we call them. What's the big deal? It's just respect.44:20
44 minutes, 20 seconds
It's just Yes, it's politeness.44:22
44 minutes, 22 seconds
have some decency. Uh the ICE of course continues to be the the terror group in this country. A trans coast player,44:31
44 minutes, 31 seconds
Clara Tan, I have a picture of her brutally abducted by ICE with no valid warrant, thrown in with men, releasedChapter 13: Safety and discrimination
44:39
44 minutes, 39 seconds
only after a genital exam. She was on her way home from New from uh to the state of New York and Rochester from an44:47
44 minutes, 47 seconds
event in California and aggressively taken into custody. Now they, you know, they finally, you know, figured out what was going. She was really, they broke44:56
44 minutes, 56 seconds
her foot. I mean, they didn't treat her u it it is racism. It is, it is transphobia. Uh she she was finally45:05
45 minutes, 5 seconds
released with an ankle monitor on. This is fascism and this is the fascism that we have to we must stop in this country.45:15
45 minutes, 15 seconds
Meanwhile, the Trevor Project um has done some research and they followed uh 1689 LGBTQ plus young people aged 13 to45:24
45 minutes, 24 seconds
24 for more than two years and they were trying to figure out well what actually protects our youth and you know what are45:32
45 minutes, 32 seconds
the circumstances under which under which they flourish and what are the circumstances in which uh they actually45:38
45 minutes, 38 seconds
see their outcomes worsen. Um, so family support was linked to 45% lower odds of suicidal ideiation. There's a shock.45:49
45 minutes, 49 seconds
Being threatened with or exposed to conversion therapy, on the other hand, led to nearly three times higher odds of45:56
45 minutes, 56 seconds
suicidal ideiation. None of this will come as a surprise to any of us who actually have lived the life of of an46:03
46 minutes, 3 seconds
LGBTQ plus person. Um, but you know, now at least there's some statistics and some actual research to back us up.46:12
46 minutes, 12 seconds
Now, New York City and New York State have good non-discrimination laws on the basis of sexual orientation and gender46:19
46 minutes, 19 seconds
identity. So, a Missouri lesbian was ordering a I think a wedding dress from46:25
46 minutes, 25 seconds
a New York firm and then the owner of the business figured out that said, "Oh,46:32
46 minutes, 32 seconds
I can't do that for lesbians." Uh and and then she she urged the couple to come to Jesus and not get married.46:41
46 minutes, 41 seconds
I believe Jesus died for our sins so that we would live for him according to his holy word. I know both of you love each other and that this feels right,46:49
46 minutes, 49 seconds
but I encourage you to both reconsider and see what the Lord has to say and the wonderful things he has in store for you both if you trust and obey him.46:58
46 minutes, 58 seconds
So the appellet court said this is the law in New York and guess what? She'll take this all the way to the Supreme Court and she'll probably win,47:06
47 minutes, 6 seconds
which is disgraceful unless Chris is successful in amending the Judiciary Act to expand the court.47:14
47 minutes, 14 seconds
Well, and it's interesting they they in this New York case, they've made a distinction or to try to protect our our47:23
47 minutes, 23 seconds
um rights by saying it's different from like the cake baking uh uh example because this is not a creation. There's no artistic um creation involved here.47:34
47 minutes, 34 seconds
This dress was already designed and was already being made available to anyone.47:37
47 minutes, 37 seconds
So, it's not creation. Yeah. So, and PS, this woman who runs this service,47:44
47 minutes, 44 seconds
does she ever ask if anybody's divorced and remarried if they're asking for a wedding dress? No. And the same thing with the Catholic school that is, you47:53
47 minutes, 53 seconds
know, fighting to keep gay gay parents out. They don't care about if the people are divorced because they're hypocrites.47:58
47 minutes, 58 seconds
And it's it's disgraceful. Anyway, all right. A St. Louis story we've been reporting on for three years. Uh we have the picture of Chad Morris and James48:07
48 minutes, 7 seconds
Pence, the co-owners of Bar PM. Police rammed their bar and then arrested them48:14
48 minutes, 14 seconds
or one of them. And uh it this they threw him in jail, everything. They they48:20
48 minutes, 20 seconds
have now settled with St. Louis for $4.2 million uh in a settlement finally. But it took a long time to get justice here.48:30
48 minutes, 30 seconds
Meanwhile, in St. Louis, a gay man was brutally beaten. If we can get the picture up of the asalent, um we canChapter 14: Education and legal action
48:37
48 minutes, 37 seconds
yeah memorize that face because uh this guy Abdul Warareth Alamad, 18,48:46
48 minutes, 46 seconds
excuse me, um attacked the guy, lured him in on Grinder. Um then he and three others attacked him. He sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized.48:56
48 minutes, 56 seconds
They broke his phone. They tried to take his stuff. Um, and they, uh, uh, used slurs, uh, both, uh, um, racial slurs49:04
49 minutes, 4 seconds
and the f-word, um, as they were attacking him. Uh, so they actually have this guy in custody, um, but they're looking for some of the others involved49:13
49 minutes, 13 seconds
in the assault. And in Texas, uh, the female student who was banned from playing the male lead role in what was49:21
49 minutes, 21 seconds
it, Little Shop of Horrors, uh, now has filed a lawsuit under Title Nine, saying she was discriminated against. I mean,49:29
49 minutes, 29 seconds
men have been playing women. Women have been playing men forever in the theater.49:33
49 minutes, 33 seconds
You're supposed to be able to play anybody. Uh the official said a female student can't play a male part without49:41
49 minutes, 41 seconds
violating state law protecting parental rights and banning from the teaching of LGBTQ identities, creating a DEI. I49:50
49 minutes, 50 seconds
You're out of your minds. None of it applies. [laughter] I hope she wins her case there at Grand Prairie High School, Patrick.50:01
50 minutes, 1 second
Yeah. particularly painful for me as a longtime Star Trek fan. Um, we lost Patrick Stewart, who was probably best50:08
50 minutes, 8 seconds
known as Captain Jeanluke Pequard on Star Trek: The Next Generation, but actually has and also for us geeks as50:16
50 minutes, 16 seconds
Professor Xavier in many of the X-Men films, but he has a long long history um50:22
50 minutes, 22 seconds
of on stage. Um, he was an I Claudius on British television ages ago with hair.50:29
50 minutes, 29 seconds
Um and he was in a number of u of gay productions um where he played gay. Now he himself was straight but he was50:36
50 minutes, 36 seconds
really close friends with Sir Ian Mckllen who was obviously uh the openly gay uh famed actor. Um, the movie I best50:44
50 minutes, 44 seconds
remember him for in gay terms is Jeffrey and uh he that was an AIDS dramdy. Um, and he played50:52
50 minutes, 52 seconds
1995 written by Paul Rdnik and we do have a little scene from it where he plays this waspish interior designer.Chapter 15: Tribute to Patrick Stewart

Sometimes I think we should be on a brochure for middle America. Then everyone can say, "Oh, look, a wholesome gay couple."51:10
51 minutes, 10 seconds
Oh, excuse me. You two are not wholesome. You're a decorator.51:15
51 minutes, 15 seconds
Excuse me. An interior designer and he's a dancer. You two are like Martha Stewart and Anne Miller, which believe me, I prefer. I I just hate that gay51:24
51 minutes, 24 seconds
role models are supposed to be just like straight people. As if even straight people are like that.51:28
51 minutes, 28 seconds
That is so true. I was watching these two guys on Night Line on Gay Pride Day and one of them said, "Hi, I'm Bob51:37
51 minutes, 37 seconds
Wheeler and I'm an attorney and my lover, he's a surgeon and we would like to show America that all gays are not limpisted screaming queens. [music]51:47
51 minutes, 47 seconds
There are gay truck drivers and gay cops and gay lumberjacks." And I just thought, "Ooh, get her."51:57
51 minutes, 57 seconds
Who's Martha Stewart? She writes picture books about gracious living. Martha says that nothing else matters if you can do52:04

a nice dried floral arrangement. I worship her. And um who's an Miller?52:12
52 minutes, 12 seconds
Leave this house.52:14
52 minutes, 14 seconds
[laughter]52:17
52 minutes, 17 seconds
Oh, there they are. There's the whole cast. The lover who who was in a cat's uniform is Brian Bat, the openly gay actor. In the center is Steven Weber,52:25
52 minutes, 25 seconds
who is this who is Jeffrey. And the uh guy on the right, I apologize for not having your name, but that's the guy that uh is going out with Steven Weber.52:34
52 minutes, 34 seconds
But uh at one point, he says to his lover, Patrick Stewart, uh you know, Darius uh once he says this to Steven52:43
52 minutes, 43 seconds
Weber, who was depressive. You know, Darius once said, "You're the saddest person he knew. Why?" And Jeffrey says, "Why did he say that?" And Sterling, the character, says, "Because he was sick.52:54
52 minutes, 54 seconds
He had a fatal disease and he was a million times happier than you. And Sir Patrick was really knew how to make53:02
53 minutes, 2 seconds
people happy through his work and his friendships. There he is with Seren McCllen. They love the relationship that they had.53:10
53 minutes, 10 seconds
He will be deeply missed.53:12
53 minutes, 12 seconds
Deeply, deeply, deeply. So progay. All right. International is We got a couple of minutes. Yes, we do.Chapter 16: International news and health
53:18
53 minutes, 18 seconds
Do it fast. Well, in Brazil, you know, in addition to pro-LGBTQ Lula retaining53:25
53 minutes, 25 seconds
the presidency, and by the way, uh Trump moved Flavio Bolsinaro into this country53:32
53 minutes, 32 seconds
without a passport. You know, why does an ice grab him? And then, uh they also elected they doubled the number of LGBTQ53:41
53 minutes, 41 seconds
people elected to the legislature. And the black trans woman who Erica Hilton we told you about, she got mo the most53:48
53 minutes, 48 seconds
voted woman deputy in the country's history, 1.6 billion votes.53:53
53 minutes, 53 seconds
Meanwhile, Go ahead.53:56
53 minutes, 56 seconds
I was going to say Sagal, they're cracking down, continuing to crack down on LGBTQ people and anyone who quote54:03
54 minutes, 3 seconds
unquote promotes uh homosexuality um in advance of an the first Olympic event in Africa, which is being held there. Um, so that's pretty awful.54:13
54 minutes, 13 seconds
And in Kenya, they've uh uh uh the World Bank published Kenya's first LGBTI inclusion index. Um, but at the same54:22
54 minutes, 22 seconds
time, the same week, the parliamentary committee urged the government to strictly enforce the penal code articles that punish same-sex relations with up54:31
54 minutes, 31 seconds
to 14 years in prison. So, still a lot of work to be done in Africa. Uh in New Zealand, their high court has struck54:38
54 minutes, 38 seconds
down the country's ban on puberty blockers for for young people.54:44
54 minutes, 44 seconds
Meanwhile, in China, activists are taking a very interesting angle. They're kind of going at LGBTQ rights from the perspective perspective of children and54:53
54 minutes, 53 seconds
their welfare and how uh gay children get discrimination and bullying in schools, how conversion practices harm them, and that apparently resonates a55:02
55 minutes, 2 seconds
lot in Chinese society. So, it's an interesting approach that they've been working on for years and hopefully it'll start to pay off.55:08
55 minutes, 8 seconds
And at the United Nations, which is falling apart, Trump is defunding it. Of course, five states that criminalize us have joined the Human Rights Council.55:19
55 minutes, 19 seconds
Um, police in B Oh, I can't even say that. Police in a region of Pakistan have arrested two men in connection with the death of a transgender woman who had55:27
55 minutes, 27 seconds
previously filed a harassment complaint against them. It's a pretty awful story.55:31
55 minutes, 31 seconds
Uh the victim was named Zoya Malik um was attacked by four men um and uh died from the injuries.55:40
55 minutes, 40 seconds
And in Turkey, you know, they have that huge crackdown on on LGBT groups and things and the leaders of the main gay group have six weeks without an indictment. They're just being held.55:52
55 minutes, 52 seconds
And finally, the UK is is uh the BBC is in the UK, the BBC is catching uh hell for blurring uh uh protect the dolls56:01
56 minutes, 1 second
from the t-shirt of a performer on when on Strictly Come Dancing. Um people noticed and there were lots of complaints to the BBC about it and the56:10
56 minutes, 10 seconds
Broadway cares rent the 30th anniversary concert. They raised 4.6 six basically56:17
56 minutes, 17 seconds
million dollars for people facing HIV AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses and we appreciate their support and I just want to say they also56:25
56 minutes, 25 seconds
are are supporters of new alternatives for homeless LGBTQ youth uh which I was president of the board of now next56:35
56 minutes, 35 seconds
Wednesday November 11th and I'll put this in our email they're going to honor me I mean I don't deserve any honors those kids do for surviving on the56:42

streets but New Alternatives deserves your support So go to new alternatives nyc.org, look it up. I hope to see you there.56:53
56 minutes, 53 seconds
Excellent. Um, AIDS health news. Um, the FDA has approved a new generic injectable HIV preventive medication.57:03
57 minutes, 3 seconds
And what's wonderful about it is the annual cost per person is only $40. Um, uh, comparable to daily tablets.57:11
57 minutes, 11 seconds
It's called Len Lenicapper.57:14
57 minutes, 14 seconds
And um by comparison uh the uh Gilead's brand version of Lenn Capavir um called57:22
57 minutes, 22 seconds
Yetugo is $14,100 $19 per injection. So this is57:30
57 minutes, 30 seconds
potentially a huge benefit for um uh other countries in the in the developing world.57:36
57 minutes, 36 seconds
All right, we're almost out of time. Uh I think I can hold some of these stories to last. I'm going to put post these in the email. uh the story about Bri57:43
57 minutes, 43 seconds
Charlotte, the artist painting bold and vivid portraits of every queer Holocaust victim. Uh you know, and uh we're just we're we're out of time. Thanks, Chris.57:53
