How We Actually Pay for War and Billionaire Tax Cuts

How We Actually Pay for War and Billionaire Tax Cuts

Trump and Republicans are spreading
lies about SNAP.
Here are the facts
they don’t want you to know.
First,
they claim that SNAP recipients
are lazy freeloaders
who don’t want to work.
Non-working Medicaid recipients spend six hours a day
on socializing,
relaxing,
TV,
and video games.
A lie.
They have used it to enact strict work requirements
for the program.
In reality,
more than two-thirds
of SNAP recipients
are children,
the elderly,
or people with a disability who cannot work.
As for the recipients who can work,
the vast majority
do.
15.7 million workers
in households with a SNAP recipient,
meaning their job
is so low-paying
they have to rely on SNAP
to help feed their families.
That includes nearly
a quarter
of Amazon
warehouse workers
who toil away
for one of the richest men
on the planet.
Don’t fall into Republicans’ trap
and blame SNAP recipients for needing assistance.
Blame the corporations
who pay them so little,
they need it to survive.
Second,
Republicans claim that SNAP is
wasteful government spending.
Baloney.
It’s enormously efficient.
Every dollar spent on SNAP
generates as much as
$1.50
in economic activity,
helping boost local economies across the country
and supporting nearly
400,000 jobs.
Third,
Republicans’ most egregious lie of all:
They claim
they’re not cutting the program.
We have not cut Medicaid
and we have not cut SNAP.
Wrong.
Trump and Republicans have made the largest cut to SNAP
in history.
As a result, an estimated
4 million people
will lose their benefits,
including about
1 million children.
Republicans can claim
they’re just eliminating waste and fraud.
But the truth is,
they gutted
one of our most effective social programs
to help fund more tax cuts for the rich
to help fund more tax cuts for the rich
and big corporations.
You want to talk about real
waste and fraud?
How about the fact that
the richest 1 percent
evade $160 billion
in taxes every year.
That amount alone would fund SNAP every year
with $60 billion left over.
It’s clear who the real freeloaders are.
But Republicans don’t want you to know that.
If Trump and Republicans really cared
about reducing the number of people who need SNAP,
they would increase the federal minimum wage.
They’d crack down on big corporations
that pay their CEOs
hundreds of times more
than their workers
who struggle to make ends meet.
And they’d address the affordability crisis
by making the rich
pay their fair share of taxes
and use the funds to boost childcare,
education,
and affordable housing.
You know, things that would actually lift
and keep people out of poverty.
But no,
all Republicans care about is
doling out tax breaks
for the super-rich
and corporations
that bankroll them.
So the next time you hear Republicans
spouting lies about SNAP,
know
the truth
and help spread it
by sharing this video.
