Donald Trump booed at World Cup final trophy ceremony

President Donald Trump was in attendance for the World Cup Final between Argentina and Spain on July 19, where he was received with boos during the postgame trophy presentation ceremony.
Trump walked onto the field to present the World Cup trophy to winners Spain alongside FIFA president Gianni Infantino following the match. The crowd booed both men.
Trump entered MetLife Stadium during the pre-game festivities and received "scattered boos" following the performance of the U.S. National Anthem when he was briefly shown on the stadium's video boards, according to The Guardian. He was seated in a suite behind thick glass with Infantino, Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney administration officials and family.
Earlier in the tournament, Trump asked Infantino to review the red card issued to USMNT forward Folarin Balogun during the U.S.'s round of 32 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina. FIFA controversially suspended Balogun's one-game ban, allowing the star striker to play in the U.S.'s nightmare 4-1 loss to Belgium that sent them out of the tournament.
The president had not attended any of the prior games in the tournament but has been a regular fixture at sporting events during his second term. He appeared at Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs, the 2025 Daytona 500 and the 2025 Super Bowl.
