Hello everybody and welcome to Gay USA.0:32
32 seconds
I'm Anne Northrup and I'm JW Walker.0:35
35 seconds
Not Andy Hum who is away for a few weeks which as my tenure comes to an end soon0:42
42 seconds
at
the end of the month but uh it gives me the chance to visit with
several of our favorite substitute co-hosts starting with you.0:51
51 seconds
Oh, I'm so honored and pleased to be here. Next week, Chris Cooper and then Kathy Marino Thomas and then Andy's back0:58
58 seconds
for our last show together at the end of the month. Chris Cooper is my secret crush.1:03
1 minute, 3 seconds
You're not alone in that. I hear that all the time [laughter] from people. Oh, where's that Chris Cooper? Uh, but I1:11
1 minute, 11 seconds
have to start again with a medical update. No, nothing bad, but I got a call from a friend this week saying uh1:19
1 minute, 19 seconds
uh
what's up? I went to this little Fourth of July event and I was talking
to this guy and he said something about act up and I asked him if he
knew you1:28
1 minute, 28 seconds
and
he said, "Oh, did you hear what happened to her?" And she said, "No,
what?" And he said, "Uh, she had a recurrence of her breast cancer." And
the answer is, "No, no, I did not.1:40
1 minute, 40 seconds
There
was a little scare a couple of weeks ago when they found a new mass,
but it just turned out to be, as we like to say, a ball of fat. So
please if uh1:50
1 minute, 50 seconds
if you think anyone is deceived, correct them. I'm fine. I in fact have gone back to my cured status. Oh, absolutely.1:58
1 minute, 58 seconds
Which is what the oncologist says. So uh please stop any rumors to the contrary.2:05
2 minutes, 5 seconds
I'm fine because I would hate to have people running around thinking that I had had a when I did not.2:12
2 minutes, 12 seconds
So JW Walker is here. He's the co-founder of the Queer Liberation March, the with this one. [laughter]2:20
2 minutes, 20 seconds
True. And co-founder of Gays Against Guns, which was a grand marshall at this year's Pride Parade.2:27
2 minutes, 27 seconds
Yeah, it was a lot of fun. Yeah, tell me. So, how was it?2:30
2 minutes, 30 seconds
Um,
you know, uh, well, the interesting thing is that Queer Liberation
March was started as a very oppositional to NYC pride, to heritage of
pride. Yes.2:40
2 minutes, 40 seconds
The
reality is that over the last several years there's been a lot of
changes at Heritage of Pride. Um and mostly because the corporations are
loud.2:50
2 minutes, 50 seconds
Well, that too. Yeah.2:51
2 minutes, 51 seconds
Um but uh when you know this year was is Gays Against Guns 10th anniversary. We were founded um you know two a couple2:59
2 minutes, 59 seconds
days after the Pulse nightclub shooting which was June 12th, 2016. We made our first public debut um at that Pride3:07
3 minutes, 7 seconds
march that year. And so it felt really important for us to participate in um the Heritage of Pride March this year.3:13
3 minutes, 13 seconds
I was there. That was a very moving uh thing that first year.3:17
3 minutes, 17 seconds
And
so we reached out to them just about figuring out a way that we could
participate. And as it turned out, one of their board members had
already nominated us to be grand marshals. So3:26
3 minutes, 26 seconds
everything just sort of dovetailed and um and all the other grand marshals were lovely and the folks at NYC Pride could3:34
3 minutes, 34 seconds
not have been kinder and sweeter. Um, I got to represent Gays Against Guns, uh, uh, painting the rainbow crosswalk at3:42
3 minutes, 42 seconds
Christopher Street and 7th Avenue. I broke my paint roller stick while I was doing it.3:47
3 minutes, 47 seconds
And
you did a dye in in front of the Well, and then on the day of the on
the day of the march. Yes, we did a die in um in front of uh in front of
Stonewall3:55
3 minutes, 55 seconds
on
the block in front of Stonewall. So, uh, which is, you know, holding
back to our our activist roots, our disruptive roots. The um the [clears
throat]4:03
4 minutes, 3 seconds
marshals of the of the parade were not too thrilled with us for doing that.4:07
4 minutes, 7 seconds
They never are, [laughter] which is why there will not be a full Rapro in the foreseeable future.4:14
4 minutes, 14 seconds
And
then of course I had to right after we finished, I had to go across cop
on the L train uh to go across 14th Street to go to Union Square to
start the Queer Liberation March.4:24
4 minutes, 24 seconds
And how did that go this year? That was really powerful and wonderful.4:29
4 minutes, 29 seconds
And
there was yet again a situation with community affairs cops near the
very end. Uh but overall it was a it was a really positive market.4:38
4 minutes, 38 seconds
Okay, I'll talk to you more about that another time.4:41
4 minutes, 41 seconds
Uh well, let's uh jump into the headlines here because per usual there's a lot going on. Uh ICE arrests are4:50
4 minutes, 50 seconds
surging. You don't hear about it as much, but uh they're doubling.4:55
4 minutes, 55 seconds
They're doubling. Yeah. uh intelligence officers are being fired by the bozo who's uh currently5:02
5 minutes, 2 seconds
running uh is the director of national intelligence. The civil service is being destroyed after the Supreme Court5:10
5 minutes, 10 seconds
decision and Trump's campaign to devastate the United States is he's even come close to destroying the World Cup.5:19
5 minutes, 19 seconds
Yeah. But it's all in high gear.5:22
5 minutes, 22 seconds
Yeah.
And it it doesn't seem like it's going to stop. There was just um
another ICE murder of uh he was apparently a Mexican national, Lorenzo
Salad in Houston, Texas.5:32
5 minutes, 32 seconds
Yes, I just heard that.5:34
5 minutes, 34 seconds
And
uh and you know, with this surge, of course, there are going to be more
deaths and some of those deaths are going to be American citizens and
it's5:43
5 minutes, 43 seconds
just going to get worse. So, next headline uh we got oh well uh what Trump has been5:49
5 minutes, 49 seconds
doing across the board uh since the his first month in office is targeting trans people for attack and eraser. Um it5:58
5 minutes, 58 seconds
that's at the heart of his strategy to divide to divide the country and to distract people into focusing on some6:05
6 minutes, 5 seconds
boogie boogie people um while he's robbing everyone's line and lying of course about all of this.6:12
6 minutes, 12 seconds
and you've uh unearthed an interesting new report about how this is uh the strategy being picked up around the6:19
6 minutes, 19 seconds
world. We'll talk about that. Uh Patriot Front troops were marching through Washington DC on the 4th of July. There6:28
6 minutes, 28 seconds
they were in their khakis and their navy shirts and their face masks. It's just unbelievable. Well, and you know, they6:35
6 minutes, 35 seconds
just um I think it was last January um received a judgment against them for to the tune of $2.7 million in a federal6:44
6 minutes, 44 seconds
court because an earlier one of these Patriot Front marches back in 2022 in Boston. They attacked a black musician,6:53
6 minutes, 53 seconds
Charles Morurell III. Okay. And brutalized.6:55
6 minutes, 55 seconds
Save it. We're just doing the headlines at the moment. Uh all right.6:59
6 minutes, 59 seconds
All right. So, the resistance Oh. Uh with the resistance is alive and well. Yes. and growing. Yes.7:05
7 minutes, 5 seconds
Which is great because they're all so obvious. Uh and believe it or not, the daughters of the7:11
7 minutes, 11 seconds
American Revolution have affirmed their trans members. Th This is [laughter] I7:19
7 minutes, 19 seconds
just heard an exclamation from our director in the control room. It's true. Yes. Anyway, more details in a moment.7:27
7 minutes, 27 seconds
And
the um this wonderful heroic gay couple who have been devoted to
helping the homeless uh have died in New York City within a week of one
another.7:36
7 minutes, 36 seconds
Tragic. Turkey, the country where they're holding that uh world meeting, world leaders meeting and you know Trump7:45
7 minutes, 45 seconds
is bragging about how close he is to Erdogan. Turkey refused a gay cruise ship from docking there even though7:54
7 minutes, 54 seconds
others have done so for years. But this was the moment to uh shut down an Atlantis cruise.8:01
8 minutes, 1 second
And yes, there were LGBTQ people at the wedding of Taylor and Travis.8:09
8 minutes, 9 seconds
Yes, I' I've been taking notes. I have a list. I didn't get to go through the entire thousand person guest list, but8:16
8 minutes, 16 seconds
from what I've seen, I've compiled a list of about a dozen.8:20
8 minutes, 20 seconds
All right. Uh, so you know, Trump, he just, you'd think that he would, he's had court decisions8:28
8 minutes, 28 seconds
against him. He's had the American people against him, but he just is the proverbial dog with a bone. He cannot8:36
8 minutes, 36 seconds
give up anything. I mean, he's still talking about Greenland this week. Uh, and he wants to destroy destroy the8:45
8 minutes, 45 seconds
everyone's way of life in this country, every norm, every everything. and certainly going after trans people is at8:52
8 minutes, 52 seconds
the heart of it, but he of his strategy and his uh attitudes, but he really8:59
8 minutes, 59 seconds
everything he does is negative for the existence of everybody in this country.9:04
9 minutes, 4 seconds
Well, in this country and around the world, I mean, the estimates are that 500,000 people at least have already9:11
9 minutes, 11 seconds
died um because of the cuts in US aid to developing countries. 500 is a that's a mass murderer. Yes.9:18
9 minutes, 18 seconds
You know, that's pulp pot level stuff.9:20
9 minutes, 20 seconds
Exactly. And again, with no consequences, uh, and trying to maintain power so that he won't eventually face any9:28
9 minutes, 28 seconds
consequences
to this, but it's hard for me to imagine that we're ever going to
succeed in, uh, convicting him of anything or sending him to jail. He
got9:37
9 minutes, 37 seconds
the Supreme Court to to declare him immune for everything he's done as president. All right. I I have a my9:44
9 minutes, 44 seconds
[snorts] usual list of stories and I've annotated them this week in the uh realm9:50
9 minutes, 50 seconds
of bad and good from Trump. So uh the bad outweigh the good by about uh 8 to one.9:58
9 minutes, 58 seconds
So [laughter] I'm just going to whip through some of these and we can discuss as we go along.10:04
10 minutes, 4 seconds
Yes, ICE arrests are surging and you know the uh Prairie Land arrests from the people who are uh demonstrating10:13
10 minutes, 13 seconds
against ICE protesting uh peaceful protests, but they rounded up a lot of them. They've convicted them. They're10:20
10 minutes, 20 seconds
sending them all to prison. And the last one is has just been uh given a sentence of six years in prison. Was not at the10:29
10 minutes, 29 seconds
protest, right? But convicted of uh material support.10:34
10 minutes, 34 seconds
Yeah. Uh and they've fired hundreds of uh intelligence officers because they don't10:43
10 minutes, 43 seconds
want to defend this country. They want people to come in like the Patriot Front. And uh in fact, let's look at10:50
10 minutes, 50 seconds
those Patriot Front. There's one here that you've probably seen everywhere that's become the iconic picture of the10:58
10 minutes, 58 seconds
Patriot Front uh members on the Metro in DC. And this poor woman sitting there11:05
11 minutes, 5 seconds
with all these Patriot Front members around her. Now look at those masks.11:11
11 minutes, 11 seconds
They're masked. Uh and they look so much like Ku Klux Clan members with those white masks that might as well be hoods.11:20
11 minutes, 20 seconds
Uh and they uh and there's this guy. I had just seen this picture. Uh, also11:27
11 minutes, 27 seconds
there are a ton of pictures of hundreds of Patriot Front members marching through town, going down to the subway,11:36
11 minutes, 36 seconds
surrounding people who are uh just sitting there in terror.11:42
11 minutes, 42 seconds
Well,
I mean, the thing is if you they go on the subway like that, they're
going to be surrounding black people because DC is a black town. You
know,11:50
11 minutes, 50 seconds
the people that use the subway are black and brown people in DC. And this is also in the in um you know in light of the11:58
11 minutes, 58 seconds
continued presence of the National Guard chiefly in black and brown residential neighborhoods in DC. And you know Trump12:06
12 minutes, 6 seconds
keeps touting, oh the the lowest crime rate in DC ever, blah blah blah. But he's literally sending National Guard12:14
12 minutes, 14 seconds
troops who are coming in from Minnesota or South Dakota or wherever and just sort of instituting martial law in black12:23
12 minutes, 23 seconds
and brown neighborhoods and and attacking people sitting in their yards.12:28
12 minutes, 28 seconds
Well, Steven Miller and his henchmen continue to talk about the need for America to become a Christian white12:35
12 minutes, 35 seconds
society. That that's what it was set up to be. that anyone else should be thrown out of the country. uh and they have not12:42
12 minutes, 42 seconds
given up this approach and they uh say it quite blatantly and this is the perfect example of the intimidation they12:51
12 minutes, 51 seconds
are wreaking havoc on uh with on the population and I I just uh uh you know I13:00
13 minutes
despair
at the people who are put in that situation with those uh patriot front
people around them and the frightening part is it's it's so13:08
13 minutes, 8 seconds
normalized like Republican senators, uh, they have free speech rights, too.13:14
13 minutes, 14 seconds
Yeah.
Yeah. You know, but the Patriot Front, but everything ensuing, the fact
that Steven Miller, who is a key advisor to the president of the United
States,13:22
13 minutes, 22 seconds
saying
key adviser, saying the most racist, horrifically racist neo-Nazi, he's
always been called a Nazi for good reason, things. And we13:31
13 minutes, 31 seconds
have a media environment that has just sort of allowed it to be normalized.13:35
13 minutes, 35 seconds
They're not, you know, they they'd rather talk about, you know, the latest entertainment news or the soccer or or the Knicks.13:43
13 minutes, 43 seconds
Um, which I mean, the Nick should be talked about, don't get me wrong. That's fine.13:46
13 minutes, 46 seconds
But, uh, you know, there's a there's a frightening white supremacist takeover of our government that in broad13:55
13 minutes, 55 seconds
daylight,
in plain sight, not obuscated, not hidden away, just no, but not being
called out. You know, I I I'm old. I remember the Vietnam War.14:06
14 minutes, 6 seconds
I remember the civil rights movement and the uh the blaring headlines about all of this and really people up in arms and14:15
14 minutes, 15 seconds
upset in the entire country demonstrating or complaining about all this here. Everybody is just it's like14:23
14 minutes, 23 seconds
we're all on Xanax or something. It's just uh well that's not entirely true because of course one of our headlines14:30
14 minutes, 30 seconds
also was that people are fighting back but uh let me run through a little more of this. We have the failed state fair,14:37
14 minutes, 37 seconds
the failed reflecting pool, the failed Kennedy Center, the failure at Mount Rushmore, the fact that he's stealing14:44
14 minutes, 44 seconds
money from uh all the parks, the national parks to put on his failed Fourth of July nonsense.14:53
14 minutes, 53 seconds
uh he uh hires the producer of the January 6th rally15:00
15 minutes
to set up the failed state fair and and July 4th mess. uh uh the he's still15:09
15 minutes, 9 seconds
pushing the Save America Act uh with the anti-trans uh things because it15:18
15 minutes, 18 seconds
mandates the exclusion of trans girls from female sports. Uh the Supreme Court15:25
15 minutes, 25 seconds
just said you can make rules. His version says you have to and you have to do that across the board. So he's still15:34
15 minutes, 34 seconds
after that. Just the list goes on and on. Uh oh, here's one of my favorites.15:39
15 minutes, 39 seconds
Shawn Davis from the Federalist, a publisher, writer for the Shan Federalist, said uh would we should15:46
15 minutes, 46 seconds
either refuse female immigrants from coming into the country or sterilize them or sterilize them or and and the the15:54
15 minutes, 54 seconds
interesting
thing is the way that he phrased it though, it wasn't immigrants, he
said visitors because that's the whole the whole16:01
16 minutes, 1 second
thing, right? It was citizenship. it was baby tourism, right?16:04
16 minutes, 4 seconds
And
so they so it can't just be people who are immigrating here because
they want to, you know, because if you happen to be pregnant while
you're vacationing16:12
16 minutes, 12 seconds
here
and you give birth a little earlier than you planned, then your child
is technically an American citizen, even if you have no intention of
living here or anything,16:20
16 minutes, 20 seconds
which of course is the exact story of the American soccer player who uh Trump then went to bat for by calling the head16:28
16 minutes, 28 seconds
of FIFA, right? But even though everyone has noticed this and it is all over the news, no one has had the guts to say to16:37
16 minutes, 37 seconds
Trump directly, "Wait a minute. I thought you hated birthright citizenship and yet this guy is uh is someone you16:45
16 minutes, 45 seconds
felt was mistreated and you wanted to elevate." What's his answer to that?16:50
16 minutes, 50 seconds
Yeah.
Well, the the real thing he's going to have to answer for is the fact
that he keeps cursing uh American hopeful teams. Like I mean the Knicks16:58
16 minutes, 58 seconds
did
end up winning, but so the one the one game in that fi in those finals
that Trump attended is the one game the Knicks lost. Then the second
after he17:06
17 minutes, 6 seconds
intervenes on behalf of this American soccer player, they lose and they're out of the competition. So uh you know,17:14
17 minutes, 14 seconds
people should just try to not allow not ask any favors for Trump, not ask him.17:19
17 minutes, 19 seconds
He's supposed to go to the final at the World Cup, but since the US will not be playing, I don't know which team he will curse.17:29
17 minutes, 29 seconds
Maybe the stadium will maybe have problems. I don't want to say that since we're about to lose a skyscraper17:37
17 minutes, 37 seconds
here on 42nd Street that was going to be converted into into apartments.17:42
17 minutes, 42 seconds
Well, I think it still can be, but do they have to knock down the whole thing to rescue it? I don't know.17:47
17 minutes, 47 seconds
Anyway,
uh so he also is of course putting his signature on the $100 bill, the
first president to feel he needs to uh have his signature on the
currency.17:59
17 minutes, 59 seconds
Absolutely shameful. Uh he he he rails against trans uh people taking18:08
18 minutes, 8 seconds
advantage, but all his rich friends take advantage on a daily basis, and that's not a18:15
18 minutes, 15 seconds
problem. So, the hypocrisy of that is disturbing. Uh, and the Coast Guard18:22
18 minutes, 22 seconds
forced the Clearwater Sloop out of the Tall Ships parade here in New York on the 4th of July because they put up a a18:31
18 minutes, 31 seconds
banner that said uh, you know, it was about the environment, right? It was Yes.18:37
18 minutes, 37 seconds
indigenous rights and uh, climate justice or something. Yeah. and that was too much and so they took it out of the18:45
18 minutes, 45 seconds
parade. Uh HUD has been ordered to remove sexual orientation and gender18:52
18 minutes, 52 seconds
identity
non-discrimination from its rules and just mentioned sex. Now of course
we'll go right back to court and say but sex includes sexual
orientation19:01
19 minutes, 1 second
and gender identity. Well, I think that well the reason they did it though is a part of the recent um trans ruling was19:09
19 minutes, 9 seconds
that about trans sports was that Title N when Title N was written sex only meant male female didn't mean anything else.19:17
19 minutes, 17 seconds
This
drives me crazy. Well, I keep saying you want to be a constitutional
originalist. How can you make a decision about airplanes?19:24
19 minutes, 24 seconds
Yeah, [clears throat] exactly that. Exactly that. Yeah.19:27
19 minutes, 27 seconds
You know, uh All right. Well, I want to uh nominate uh a hero for the week in the midst of this uh Air Force Major Watson19:36
19 minutes, 36 seconds
who stood on the steps of the Capitol there in uniform with his sign, impeach, convict, remove. What a guy. What a19:46
19 minutes, 46 seconds
great thing to do. But uh the Trump administration of course didn't like it.19:50
19 minutes, 50 seconds
And so here's what happened to Major uh Watson. he was arrested. Uh,19:58
19 minutes, 58 seconds
and he his message to the population of the United States is speak up peacefully20:05
20 minutes, 5 seconds
every day until we get rid of these uh, creeps. Now, what bothers me about this20:11
20 minutes, 11 seconds
is here we have the six people, the uh senators and uh veterans who did that20:19
20 minutes, 19 seconds
video saying the military should not obey uh illegal.20:25
20 minutes, 25 seconds
Yes, exactly. And so this guy gets up and does this and you would expect people to cheer. Mhm.20:32
20 minutes, 32 seconds
No, I have a habit of watching MS now a lot and there are a lot of20:39
20 minutes, 39 seconds
uh progressive or liberal military types, ex-military or whatever, and there's one General Hurtling who I have20:46
20 minutes, 46 seconds
enjoyed listening to. He gets on there after this and says, "How dare this guy do this? This is treasonous. This is20:54
20 minutes, 54 seconds
you're not supposed to do things like this in uniform. You shouldn't speak like this." And I think, what the Yeah.21:03
21 minutes, 3 seconds
What do you want? Do you want people to speak up and and object to illegal uh actions by the president or don't you?21:11
21 minutes, 11 seconds
Well, it's this whole it's this whole thing of people that are still stuck in people on the left who are still or in21:18
21 minutes, 18 seconds
the center who are still stuck on this um protocol and you know doing uh doing21:25
21 minutes, 25 seconds
what's
expected given your position of your office when the other side is just
we don't care about any of that. We're going to do whatever we want to
do. We're going to shred the Constitution.21:34
21 minutes, 34 seconds
We're
going to ignore the Bill of Rights. We're going to just, you know,
follow everything that the Heritage Foundation said in Project 2025.21:41
21 minutes, 41 seconds
regardless of how unconstitutional it is. And then and we're trying to fight that with too many people who are in21:48
21 minutes, 48 seconds
charge
of democratic politics or who are consultants or pundits or what have
you that are well-connected that get the airwaves um uh that are still
sticking21:58
21 minutes, 58 seconds
to the old the old paradigm and it doesn't work. It's asymmetrical warfare.22:02
22 minutes, 2 seconds
And look, I want the entire military to resign and uh demonstrate. I do, again,22:09
22 minutes, 9 seconds
I'm old enough to remember all the uh active duty and veteran military throwing their medals uh at the White22:18
22 minutes, 18 seconds
House uh over the White House fence in the Vietnam War. I want to see more stuff like that. I want to see people22:25
22 minutes, 25 seconds
objecting and demonstrating voseiferously or as Major Watson says, speaking up peacefully every single day.22:35
22 minutes, 35 seconds
there has to be a a bigger fight back.22:39
22 minutes, 39 seconds
So, uh but he was and I thought he did a fantastic job of um maintaining his22:46
22 minutes, 46 seconds
dignity and speaking out forcefully and honestly about that. Uh I am happy to see that the uh that Congress has22:55
22 minutes, 55 seconds
mandated the funds to restore the press three on the suicide hotline. Uh23:02
23 minutes, 2 seconds
yes. uh which uh takes you to someone who will talk to you as an LGBTQ counselor. But23:10
23 minutes, 10 seconds
you know, half those calls used to be taken by the Trevor Project and then they got defunded and now they can't get back on this23:19
23 minutes, 19 seconds
because if you're not actively an organization on the line on the hotline, you can't be restored. So,23:27
23 minutes, 27 seconds
and what they are probably going to do is give it to, you know, is transfer have those calls transferred to some23:35
23 minutes, 35 seconds
right-wing Christian repairative therapy, pray the gay away organization.23:41
23 minutes, 41 seconds
They're going to give them in charge of that and that's going to mess these kids up even more.23:46
23 minutes, 46 seconds
Yeah.
Because they're calling because they're in distress. And so, you're
right. The uh right-wing interpretation of that is well, if you would uh
stop being gay.23:55
23 minutes, 55 seconds
Yeah. life would be lovely.23:58
23 minutes, 58 seconds
Uh uh good news, a court in California rejected the fed's demands for the24:06
24 minutes, 6 seconds
medical records of trans kids uh who were uh at Stanford Hospital. So that's24:13
24 minutes, 13 seconds
one piece of good news. and another court for bad the United States Postal Service from following through on24:22
24 minutes, 22 seconds
Trump's orders to not send mail in ballots to people. Now, Trump is still fighting that in various ways.24:29
24 minutes, 29 seconds
Well, and apparently Lewis DeJoy um postmaster postmaster general has said that has24:36
24 minutes, 36 seconds
refused to say that he's not going to um hold those ballots. He's saying, "I will we will follow the laws or the24:43
24 minutes, 43 seconds
directives from the federal government, whatever they are," or something. You know, he's he's being very squirly about it.24:49
24 minutes, 49 seconds
I
smile because I know he's been through the ringer several times. It's
hard to imagine people now that I've made this plea for people to stand
up to uh Trump.24:59
24 minutes, 59 seconds
I I also wonder whether they will have the guts to do so.25:04
25 minutes, 4 seconds
Uh but progressive candidates are winning. Yes.25:07
25 minutes, 7 seconds
Uh you're involved in progressive politics with progressive candidates.25:13
25 minutes, 13 seconds
I know a few. I've I've I've I've uh I've uh endorsed a few, but I I normally my whole thing is staying in the streets25:21
25 minutes, 21 seconds
and
and not in the uh fun. Well, and also then you you're not beholden to
any of them. You're not, you know, you can hold them you can hold them
all to25:30
25 minutes, 30 seconds
account. But do even as a street activist, do you have a sense that uh we actually can make progress and uh win25:38
25 minutes, 38 seconds
some of these races or are we going to get knocked on our rear ends when we come to the general election?25:44
25 minutes, 44 seconds
I
think I think that um that these progressive candidates who have won
their various primaries, I think that they're going to win the general. I25:52
25 minutes, 52 seconds
think that the we're we're kind of in the same place that we were in 2016 and the people are telling us that and26:02
26 minutes, 2 seconds
the problem is women's march.26:04
26 minutes, 4 seconds
Well, that was 2020. Oh, no, that was that was 2017. But I'm talking about in the leading up to the 2016 election.26:12
26 minutes, 12 seconds
We lost that election.26:13
26 minutes, 13 seconds
Well, I know. But the reason that we lost that election is because the Democratic party wasn't listening to the people26:21
26 minutes, 21 seconds
and we had a TV star who [laughter] had not fully revealed itself. But my point is that then once people got over their26:28
26 minutes, 28 seconds
shock,
they did the women's march at the beginning of 2017 around right at his
inauguration and then in 2018 we won the midterms.26:37
26 minutes, 37 seconds
We won the midterms. Exactly. Exactly.26:39
26 minutes, 39 seconds
And I think that well the the whole point is whether or not the DNC respects these progressive candidates because26:46
26 minutes, 46 seconds
what we're seeing right now is uh some a some group of centrist Democrats are26:55
26 minutes, 55 seconds
excoriating
all of these Democratic socialist candidates, all these progressive
candidates. there. Um, you know, either it's because of Israel or27:04
27 minutes, 4 seconds
it's
because of, you know, the just progressive policies or going back to
Medicare for all, Medicare for all or defund the police or27:13
27 minutes, 13 seconds
whatever,
whatever whatever metric they want to use to go after them. They're
going after them. And that was the mistake that we made in 2016 in the27:22
27 minutes, 22 seconds
primary period because we didn't get when uh Alexandria Casiocortez was elected. People lost their minds and27:30
27 minutes, 30 seconds
they
thought, "Oh my [snorts] god, this is the end of civilization. What are
we going to do with this crazy woman?" And she's turned out to be uh
perfectly27:39
27 minutes, 39 seconds
normal and reasonable and uh you know, progressive, but uh able to compromise.27:44
27 minutes, 44 seconds
And
we're talking about her as a presidential candidate now. And uh mom
Donnie I think has also oh if he had been born in this country27:53
27 minutes, 53 seconds
he would he would definitely be in in the running for president within the next 12 years.27:59
27 minutes, 59 seconds
Well
given the rate of change from the Trump [laughter] administration we
can do something if we can do something. Well do you think he's doing a
good job?28:06
28 minutes, 6 seconds
I think he's doing an amazing job. I think he he's the best mayor that we've had I think the entire time I've lived28:14
28 minutes, 14 seconds
in
this city. Maybe Dinkens. I love Dinkens. I had that warm I had a I had
a soft soft but he only served for one term you know but but I just I'm
so28:23
28 minutes, 23 seconds
impressed with him the bar is low as our mayors in this town have been very problematic but yes I also you know every once in a28:31
28 minutes, 31 seconds
while
there's a stumble but uh I think he's doing remarkably especially and
maybe this is inappropriate of me but I still think of him as quite
young. Yeah.28:41
28 minutes, 41 seconds
30 34 33.28:43
28 minutes, 43 seconds
Yeah. Something in there. So, I think that makes it especially remarkable.28:49
28 minutes, 49 seconds
But
I think that the whole thing with the Democratic Socialist and the and
the progressive movement that that folks aren't quite getting and that
the DNC28:58
28 minutes, 58 seconds
folks
aren't quite getting is that the Democratic what's happened in our
politics over the course of the last 40 50 years is the Republican party
has moved further and further to the right.29:09
29 minutes, 9 seconds
And as it's done that, the centrists of the Democratic party have kept moving to the right to find a new center.29:16
29 minutes, 16 seconds
They
think they're going to capture the center or and count on the left,
which all they're act which all they've actually been doing is seeding
ground.29:24
29 minutes, 24 seconds
And what the DSA is doing is bringing the Democrats back to where they were in say the late60s, right?29:31
29 minutes, 31 seconds
[snorts]29:31
29 minutes, 31 seconds
All
right. Uh, a couple more headlines here and we can move on to other
kinds of stuff. The Department of Defense is handing out erectile
dysfunction uh29:40
29 minutes, 40 seconds
pills to the tune of 100,000 to the military. Last year, 639,00029:48
29 minutes, 48 seconds
to veterans and dependents, but no gender affirming care for [laughter] trans families for for the which is basically for trans29:56
29 minutes, 56 seconds
kids of of active duty military who are seeking.30:00
30 minutes
But people point out that wait a minute, isn't Viagra a Gender affirming care.30:06
30 minutes, 6 seconds
[laughter]30:07
30 minutes, 7 seconds
Yes, it absolutely is gender affirming care.30:10
30 minutes, 10 seconds
Melania, uh, [snorts] I fully support the LGBTQIA community, but we must protect girls30:17
30 minutes, 17 seconds
sports. Make up your mind, Melania, and get educated. And the the attack on the Smithsonian's National Museum of30:26
30 minutes, 26 seconds
American History is just disgusting. And uh luckily the people there are speaking up. But federal funding is so tied into30:36
30 minutes, 36 seconds
all these institutions whether they are strictly part of the administration or not that Trump can go a long way by30:44
30 minutes, 44 seconds
withdrawing or threatening to withdraw federal funds. And that is true here too.30:48
30 minutes, 48 seconds
Well, as long as uh his toad are in control of Congress. But but speaking of the Smithsonian, I don't know whether30:56
30 minutes, 56 seconds
you saw on on July 4th when these torrential storm was bearing down on on31:04
31 minutes, 4 seconds
the state fair on the on on the Capitol Mall.31:08
31 minutes, 8 seconds
State
fair, the state multi-state fairs and the um uh you know the the park
rangers I guess that that that control that the the take31:16
31 minutes, 16 seconds
cover
take cover, take cover, take cover. And so all of these maggots had to
take cover in the Smithsonian uh museum for African-American National31:25
31 minutes, 25 seconds
African-American history museum for hours. For hours.31:30
31 minutes, 30 seconds
You think they looked at any of the exhibits?31:32
31 minutes, 32 seconds
I I hope so. I hope so. Maybe they learn something. I hope so, but I kind of doubt it.31:37
31 minutes, 37 seconds
Well, [laughter] we can hope. Uh the Oh, and you showed me this report that just was stunning uh by outright31:46
31 minutes, 46 seconds
international of uh how the GOP has spread el anti-LGBTQ31:52
31 minutes, 52 seconds
hate around the world. Uh in 25 countries, uh anti-trans, anti-gay32:03
32 minutes, 3 seconds
hate was the centerpiece of election campaigns in 2024.32:09
32 minutes, 9 seconds
They use the same uh language, gender ideology, indoctrination, wokeism. And these are this is everywhere from32:18
32 minutes, 18 seconds
Germany to Colombia to Macedonia uh in the US of course uh Pakistan, Brazil, France, uh all over the world32:27
32 minutes, 27 seconds
the the GOP and these uh religious fanatics are spreading this. Well, it's yes, this this whole sort of Christian32:35
32 minutes, 35 seconds
nationalist
movement folks, you know, here in the United States, we tend to be very
um you know, very closed off and we just think of things like Christian32:43
32 minutes, 43 seconds
nationalism as being about an American thing. But this Christian nationalism is all over Europe. It is uh pushing into32:52
32 minutes, 52 seconds
into areas of Africa. It's partnering with um with very um uh strongly32:59
32 minutes, 59 seconds
anti-gay Muslim uh leadership in some African countries to push like in Nair to like push these very very um anti-33:08
33 minutes, 8 seconds
anti-quer um platforms is this one woman Sharon Slater from um Family Watch International who is kind of the locust33:17
33 minutes, 17 seconds
point
of the particularly the anti-gay stuff in in Africa. She's literally
she and her her movement have been going from country to country to
country.33:26
33 minutes, 26 seconds
Oh boy.33:27
33 minutes, 27 seconds
U pushing these African things. And the weird thing is she's actually colonizing. But the argument that all these African33:35
33 minutes, 35 seconds
countries are using is that they're rejecting colonization when it was colonization that brought the anti-gay33:42
33 minutes, 42 seconds
attitudes
into these African countries to begin with. Absolutely. With the with
the British and French, etc. colonizers matter. Uh, by the way, I forgot
to mention your podcast. You do a podcast.33:54
33 minutes, 54 seconds
I do a podcast with two of my friends that I met for my work in Rise and Resist. It's called Girl Stop. G R L,34:01
34 minutes, 1 second
stop. So check it out. It's on all the podcast platforms.34:04
34 minutes, 4 seconds
And
uh, we did have Brandy Carile singing the America the Beautiful at the
Statue of Liberty on the day before the 4th of July. She could go around
to some34:12
34 minutes, 12 seconds
of these countries, try to tell them something story. Yeah.34:16
34 minutes, 16 seconds
All right, we got to whip through uh other stuff. Um uh interesting report by the Williams Institute. Uh employees34:24
34 minutes, 24 seconds
they surveyed were more concerned that their employers speak out on LGBTQ issues than donate money.34:32
34 minutes, 32 seconds
They want that vocal uh support which I thought was fascinating and important. Yeah. Although money is important too.34:41
34 minutes, 41 seconds
Money
is definitely everything is important especially as corporations have
been pulling money out. Yeah, but the corporate what they're saying is
that34:49
34 minutes, 49 seconds
they want their employers, these corporations to speak up to speak up.34:53
34 minutes, 53 seconds
Uh Costco has done great by uh sticking to very progressive values, but others35:00
35 minutes
have
uh have not. But you know, last week I was railing about the New York
Time a new report that the New York Times uh had really screwed up trans
coverage and uh mostly since A.G.35:12
35 minutes, 12 seconds
Solsberger took over his publisher. Uh, so they covered the Supreme Court decision on trans girls in in sports.35:20
35 minutes, 20 seconds
Did not talk to a single trans person.35:22
35 minutes, 22 seconds
Of course not. Of course not. [laughter] Well, you know, after the the transgirl in sports decision, a group of us held,35:30
35 minutes, 30 seconds
you
know, a sort of emergency community speak out and press her in in the
Stonewall National Park. And there were a few there were like two
television reporters that came with cameras. Yeah.35:40
35 minutes, 40 seconds
And um you know there's literally there were four cisgender people there and35:47
35 minutes, 47 seconds
nine trans people there and the reporter comes straight over to me and I like why don't you talk to some trans people.35:54
35 minutes, 54 seconds
Here are some let me introduce you. It's like there's a this weird kind of thing but it's please [snorts] uh I I have done a lot36:03
36 minutes, 3 seconds
of training of activists on how stupid the mainstream [laughter] media are. We can do that another day. Uh all let's uh36:11
36 minutes, 11 seconds
take a little detour to Graham Platner for a minute. Uh I you know how can you36:18
36 minutes, 18 seconds
give
any credence to a guy who says uh no that never happened. I didn't rape
her. I didn't uh take off uh condoms in the middle of sex when he was
drunk.36:29
36 minutes, 29 seconds
[laughter]36:29
36 minutes, 29 seconds
He was blackout drunk. How could he claim any credibility any of that?36:35
36 minutes, 35 seconds
I
mean, the second that someone says, "I didn't know that was a Nazi
tattoo on my chest." [laughter] And that's where they've lost and and36:43
36 minutes, 43 seconds
the
racist stuff that I typed out in chat rooms on the internet. I uh I
didn't really mean them. I was just drunk when I typed them.36:52
36 minutes, 52 seconds
I, you know, uh drunk drunk.36:55
36 minutes, 55 seconds
But, you know, but the thing is it was Maine. And so I completely understand the fact that even Maine Democrats37:02
37 minutes, 2 seconds
went ahead and supported him and supported him and supported him through the primary.37:07
37 minutes, 7 seconds
Let's
not uh let's not I'm not going to I I Maine is Maine is the least black
state in the country. Well, it's also a very Democratic state.37:16
37 minutes, 16 seconds
Uh I don't understand why the news media insists on calling them mayors when everyone else calls them maniacs.37:23
37 minutes, 23 seconds
[laughter]37:26
37 minutes, 26 seconds
Anyway, uh uh I went to camp in Maine.37:30
37 minutes, 30 seconds
Um
[laughter] so, uh they're talking about who could replace him and there
[snorts] seem to be like three top candidates, one man37:38
37 minutes, 38 seconds
and two women. I heard one of the women be interviewed this week. She was very sharp, the Secretary of State of Maine.37:45
37 minutes, 45 seconds
But
I don't know enough about any of these people to know who was the most
desirable. But there was another guy who hasn't been mentioned37:52
37 minutes, 52 seconds
yet, but who who was interested for a while, an outgay man. Uh, where'd it go?38:01
38 minutes, 1 second
Jordan.38:01
38 minutes, 1 second
Jordan Wood. Thank you. There, Jordan Wood, who uh ran in a primary for38:08
38 minutes, 8 seconds
Congress and lost, but is an admired local political type. And his name has come up a little, but I don't think he's38:16
38 minutes, 16 seconds
at the top of the list, but it would be nice if he were. It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out be how this all38:23
38 minutes, 23 seconds
shakes out because the whole primary process regardless of Platner's just horrific personal behavior was it was38:30
38 minutes, 30 seconds
very much what we were talking about earlier which is this sort of DSA progressive oriented move within the38:37
38 minutes, 37 seconds
Democratic party and Democratic primary voters consistently voting for the person who's more progressive more38:43
38 minutes, 43 seconds
aligned with Bernie Sanders or DSA. Uh I maybe it's just the identification of being the old white woman, but I still38:51
38 minutes, 51 seconds
like Janet Mills, but mayors didn't. I know. I know. Or maniacs, however you want to call it.39:00
39 minutes
But the question is, I've given up on her.39:02
39 minutes, 2 seconds
Whoever the whole process of choosing some if Platiner does drop out, the whole process of of choosing someone to39:09
39 minutes, 9 seconds
replace him on the November ballot may be in the hands of the DNC. Right.39:14
39 minutes, 14 seconds
They only have two weeks to do it. They they're talking about debates. They're talking about voting, but they with39:21
39 minutes, 21 seconds
Platner being such a total a-hole, which is about as far as I can go on this show, I think. [laughter]39:27
39 minutes, 27 seconds
Uh you he won't get out of the way and they can't start the process officially.39:33
39 minutes, 33 seconds
I'm sure they're doing a lot of talking all day long about how to do this, but really it's just an impossibly short39:40
39 minutes, 40 seconds
period of time. So I they I think they want to be uh transparent and fair, but say I please I retract that statement.39:50
39 minutes, 50 seconds
[laughter]39:50
39 minutes, 50 seconds
Uh but they they're really under this. They're under Yeah, they're under gun.39:55
39 minutes, 55 seconds
He has to step out by the 11th, right? That's that's the deadline.40:00
40 minutes
I hope he has stepped away by the time you see this show. Let's hope. Uh because this is just unconscionable.40:06
40 minutes, 6 seconds
I mean, he is he's just making himself more loathome every day by not stepping away.40:13
40 minutes, 13 seconds
Uh, all right. So, speaking of loathome, there is the attorney general of Florida who demanded that the North American40:22
40 minutes, 22 seconds
Irish dance competition exclude a 14-year-old uh trans teen40:30
40 minutes, 30 seconds
from competing. And uh the the teen is not in this picture. Those are just generic dancers, but that is the Florida40:38
40 minutes, 38 seconds
Attorney General. And as the screen says, Florida's attorney general threatened to sue over one transgender40:45
40 minutes, 45 seconds
dancer. The entire Irish dancing world refused to hand her over. Yeah. Which is amazing.40:51
40 minutes, 51 seconds
Shocking and wonderful. Really, really great. Well, as long as we're in that mode, we should talk about how the um40:59
40 minutes, 59 seconds
Daughters of the American Revolution uh41:02
41 minutes, 2 seconds
[laughter]41:04
41 minutes, 4 seconds
My grandmother was a member.41:06
41 minutes, 6 seconds
I bet she was, not me.41:09
41 minutes, 9 seconds
[laughter]41:10
41 minutes, 10 seconds
From
Windsor, Connecticut, Connecticut, where we have a connection. Uh but
they some members of the D uh put forth a proposal to ban trans members
of the D.41:22
41 minutes, 22 seconds
who knew there were trans members of the D, but evidently there are. And the administration said no and took a vote41:30
41 minutes, 30 seconds
and
uh rejected that proposal and they are affirming and welcoming their
trans members of the Daughters of the American Revolution.41:38
41 minutes, 38 seconds
You
know, once they became very publicly proud of their black membership,
it was, you know, this is this is the natural progression. It's like
when you, you41:47
41 minutes, 47 seconds
know,
when you reject racism, you know, it becomes that much easier to reject
homophobia, to reject anti-trans, uh, transphobia. It's,41:55
41 minutes, 55 seconds
well, once you get to know people as people, that's it. That's it.41:59
41 minutes, 59 seconds
Then there you are. All right. Uh, uh, in Oregon. Oh, here's another hero story. Nikki Hilts, who we've talked42:07
42 minutes, 7 seconds
about before, who is a non-binary uh, track star, uh, uses they them42:14
42 minutes, 14 seconds
pronouns. So they were competing in a very famous meet uh the Prefontaine uh annual meet named after Steve42:22
42 minutes, 22 seconds
Prefontaine who died young and was a great uh athlete. Uh Nikki Hilts is42:28
42 minutes, 28 seconds
non-binary and trans, but does not take any hormones or anything that is uh that42:37
42 minutes, 37 seconds
would call their gender into question for competitions like this and wins42:45
42 minutes, 45 seconds
competitions and won this one. Uh won the women's mile at the uh Prefontaine42:51
42 minutes, 51 seconds
Classic, beating a Kenyon favorite. Uh they came in seventh in the 1500 meters at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024.43:01
43 minutes, 1 second
uh will continue to compete, I think, uh very successfully, but is heroic in describing themselves as non-binary and43:10
43 minutes, 10 seconds
trans, but not doing anything uh physically that would uh prevent them pre prevent them from running because43:19
43 minutes, 19 seconds
they because it's it's so just because so that I understand they are they were assigned female female at birth.43:26
43 minutes, 26 seconds
Yes. And in the women's division. Okay.43:31
43 minutes, 31 seconds
And are undoubtedly really messing with the minds of the MAGA crowd.43:36
43 minutes, 36 seconds
Well,
you know, after the after the Supreme Court decision, you know, my my
one of the things I said in that presser was, I want every trans boy out
there,43:46
43 minutes, 46 seconds
whether you're an athlete or not, to try out for the girls team. Yes. Exactly.43:49
43 minutes, 49 seconds
Yeah. Just like and go into the uh girls restaurants, too.43:53
43 minutes, 53 seconds
Yeah. They want you to do your And especially at the college level.43:59
43 minutes, 59 seconds
Sure. you know, you know, after well, there was this whole thing with this uh trans boy in Texas years ago who44:06
44 minutes, 6 seconds
is a wrestler and they made him wrestle with the girls on the grounds that he was assigned female at birth and they44:13
44 minutes, 13 seconds
wouldn't
accept him in the boys division and he just wiped out all the girls and
it was just tragic and he didn't want to be doing that, right? Uh, but
that was44:21
44 minutes, 21 seconds
his
only choice and it it wasn't good for the girls and it wasn't good for
him and it wasn't good for anybody. And they made a a lovely little
documentary about it, too.44:32
44 minutes, 32 seconds
All right. Uh, in Puerto Rico, they arrested uh Robinson Dela Cruz who has44:38
44 minutes, 38 seconds
threatened uh mass killings of LGBTQ people. He wants to do another uh pulse massacre. He admires that.44:46
44 minutes, 46 seconds
And
that was it was like messages on online and and uh And then he found he
had a lot of uh child porn on TV, of course, because that always
follows.44:55
44 minutes, 55 seconds
And in Philadelphia, there's uh an urgent manhunt for uh Jaylen uh Melture45:02
45 minutes, 2 seconds
who uh over uh several weeks in May and June. Uh shot up uh three gay men.45:11
45 minutes, 11 seconds
Uh he's targeting them. He's so far killed two and injured one. And if you're in that area, I find out about that and watch out.45:23
45 minutes, 23 seconds
Uh, New Jersey has passed protections for trans care, abortion, IVF, etc.45:32
45 minutes, 32 seconds
That's amazing.45:32
45 minutes, 32 seconds
Uh, governor, we told you that Governor Pritker in Illinois had signed three protrans laws. One of them uh we're45:40
45 minutes, 40 seconds
reading about uh uh no uh uh uh it took testosterone off a list of monitored45:49
45 minutes, 49 seconds
medications so that trans people would not be targeted.45:53
45 minutes, 53 seconds
And
it was sort of that the the state was monitoring the dueling out of
those medications on a government database for the state and then this
federal46:01
46 minutes, 1 second
government would have been able to seize those records if they continued to keep them on.46:05
46 minutes, 5 seconds
Right. uh in Northfield, Minnesota, the Pride operation there has been continually attacked by local haters.46:13
46 minutes, 13 seconds
So, they're fighting back there. There are a couple of women with some lovely uh Well, this is this was a really lovely46:20
46 minutes, 20 seconds
story because what they did was these were basically allies. These were not necessarily LGBTQ people. These were the46:28
46 minutes, 28 seconds
plus people. And um they um sort of surrounded wherever these these hate mongers went. They would gather around46:37
46 minutes, 37 seconds
them
and they would hold hold up signs with one message to the people
celebrating pride on the front and another message sort of with a Bible46:44
46 minutes, 44 seconds
verse
about like don't hate and things like that facing the haters and they
would sing and they would follow them around and they would sing these
like lovely46:53
46 minutes, 53 seconds
uplifting songs and you know it reminded me of Matthew Shepherd's funeral.46:59
46 minutes, 59 seconds
I was just going to say the angels on the wings.47:02
47 minutes, 2 seconds
Yeah. Yeah. So I thought that was really cool. Well, I think that's a great way.47:05
47 minutes, 5 seconds
And
in Topeka, Kansas, when they would go after Westboro Baptist Church,
Yes. and they would do the same kind of thing there. And that kind of
peaceful47:14
47 minutes, 14 seconds
confrontation to shame the haters and and not let them intimidate people is a great story.47:22
47 minutes, 22 seconds
Backstage them and make them look silly.47:24
47 minutes, 24 seconds
Yeah.
Ken Paxton's making himself look silly in Texas. [laughter] What's the
latest? No, he he voted in six elections from the wrong president.47:36
47 minutes, 36 seconds
[laughter]47:37
47 minutes, 37 seconds
He also has changed his mind on IVF. He used to say he was proudly pro IVF, but now he's decided that's abortion. Why do47:44
47 minutes, 44 seconds
you get rid of the extra He needs he needs to get some money from someone.47:49
47 minutes, 49 seconds
Well, he needs to shore up the rightwing support. uh in Kansas uh there was a trans woman who followed the law when47:57
47 minutes, 57 seconds
they changed the law and said you you know you cannot uh be trans you have to declare yourself by your uh birth48:05
48 minutes, 5 seconds
assigned gender. So, she changed her driver's license to male. And then she got stopped and they said, "What's with48:12
48 minutes, 12 seconds
this male on your driver's license? You look like a woman." And she said, "I'm just following your stupid law." Exactly.48:19
48 minutes, 19 seconds
And
so, and then they charged her for not showing up in court even though
they had let her go. And well, yeah, it was that the cop let her48:27
48 minutes, 27 seconds
go
with a warning. Didn't give her a ticket. So, as far as she know,
leaving the leaving the thing, she um didn't uh have any cords there.
Then she received,48:36
48 minutes, 36 seconds
lo
and behold, lo and behold, she gets something in the mail saying that
if she does not show up for this for this court hearing, she's48:44
48 minutes, 44 seconds
going
to, you know, suffer repercussions. So, I think she did show up and
they have now but but there was there was no there there and nothing48:52
48 minutes, 52 seconds
happened.
But the whole issue though is that these kinds of laws are stupid and
they're going to result in stupid things. We've already seen so many49:01
49 minutes, 1 second
cisgender women um getting attacked in women's rooms. Absolutely. By men. Men49:07
49 minutes, 7 seconds
storming into women's rooms because this someone has reported them. Yes. Cuz someone's reported them or because just49:15
49 minutes, 15 seconds
they they take a look at this woman and she's too butchlooking for their mind to to conceive that she's uh that she's a a49:24
49 minutes, 24 seconds
woman. and then this man who he's trying to protect. It it makes no sense.49:30
49 minutes, 30 seconds
It's the law of unintended consequences, but it's really sad and awful.49:34
49 minutes, 34 seconds
And
it particularly hits this sort of behavior particularly hits black
women u whose whose femininity has been routinely attacked for forever.
And so49:43
49 minutes, 43 seconds
uh here's a story I like. So uh we have said that the Federal Trade Commission was going after WP PATH, the uh trans49:52
49 minutes, 52 seconds
medical organization. And so they have brought suit against WP Path and uh and49:59
49 minutes, 59 seconds
they did it in this, you know, this little northern Texas district where they do everything.50:04
50 minutes, 4 seconds
Yes. Because there are one or two judges there who will do everything rightwing.50:08
50 minutes, 8 seconds
And uh WPATS said, "No, that's inappropriate. We want to have this adjudicated in uh Washington where the50:15
50 minutes, 15 seconds
FTC is, where we are, whatever." And the FTC objected. The judge in Texas, Reed O' Conor, who is a notorious50:24
50 minutes, 24 seconds
right-wing judge sided with WPATH and said, "I shouldn't be looking at this50:31
50 minutes, 31 seconds
case. It should be assigned to a judge in DC. I am denying the FTC's uh request50:39
50 minutes, 39 seconds
for me to hear this case." Well, but but that was after though he had a private conversation with the50:46
50 minutes, 46 seconds
judge the WP path where he had reached out to. So something Boseberg Boseber the guy who said turn back the planes.50:54
50 minutes, 54 seconds
Yes. And so you know I would love to have been a fly on the wall [laughter] or in the Zoom room whatever51:01
51 minutes, 1 second
conversation went on between those two judges.51:03
51 minutes, 3 seconds
Yes. But it made me think that was a little gives you some hope about the federal courts.51:08
51 minutes, 8 seconds
Uh some creepy guy in Brooklyn 37 years old has been charged with assaulting a 12-year-old boy.51:14
51 minutes, 14 seconds
Yeah. With his belt. Yeah. Slapping his kid with a belt and calling homophobic slurs. Yeah. Assault, menacing, hate51:21
51 minutes, 21 seconds
crime. Uh Delaware, there's an update on a story we did last week. We said that they had failed to pass a51:29
51 minutes, 29 seconds
constitutional
amendment protecting samesex marriage and interracial marriage. Well,
they went back for a second try at that in the legislature51:37
51 minutes, 37 seconds
and they did pass it. So, they have to pass it twice. It's a constitutional amendment, but it is expected to51:44
51 minutes, 44 seconds
progress.
So that's that ends up being good news in uh Delaware. But in Missouri,
the governor uh says no hormones or surgery for trans inmates.51:56
51 minutes, 56 seconds
Let them all dransition on their own.51:59
51 minutes, 59 seconds
Whatever which is just which is which has already been ruled in federal courts. um that denying52:06
52 minutes, 6 seconds
um that denying uh medication to trans inmates is is like cruel and unusual punishment is torture is52:14
52 minutes, 14 seconds
unconstitutional. And so this is again they're flouting something that is already established federal law so that52:21
52 minutes, 21 seconds
they can push it up through the court system so that it goes to the Supreme Court. So then these six horrific people52:29
52 minutes, 29 seconds
end up uh voting another, you know, another thing away.52:33
52 minutes, 33 seconds
Yes. Well, we're going to be torturing our audience because we only have six minutes left.52:37
52 minutes, 37 seconds
Uh, [clears throat] in Alabama, the former mayor, Tallahassee, Florida, and Florida governatorial candidate Andrew Gillum,52:44
52 minutes, 44 seconds
who got in trouble, has now been arrested again for possession of drugs.52:49
52 minutes, 49 seconds
In Seattle, Washington, there's a trans organization there, Traction, which has moved 1,500 trans people to Seattle out52:58
52 minutes, 58 seconds
of bad states, but they're getting overwhelmed. uh if you want to help them look into that. That's just since the53:04
53 minutes, 4 seconds
2024 election. Uh in uh New York, we mourn the deaths of uh Jason Connor and53:12
53 minutes, 12 seconds
Jeffrey Newman, a married couple who were just amazing heroes working with homeless people. And in fact, Jason on53:22
53 minutes, 22 seconds
the
left there uh was homeless and they met when Jeffrey was out helping
homeless people on the streets. They've worked together for years. Jason
died.53:34
53 minutes, 34 seconds
Uh and uh a couple of days a cardiac arrest and a few days later, Jeffrey died. And we're not sure of why Jeffrey53:42
53 minutes, 42 seconds
died. He'd been living with HIV for a long time. Uh they had just celebrated their 22nd anniversary. They'd53:50
53 minutes, 50 seconds
volunteered at New Alternatives and they created backpacks for the street. Yeah.53:56
53 minutes, 56 seconds
where they uh gave, you know, loaded backpacks to homeless people on the street. They were just fantastic.54:03
54 minutes, 3 seconds
Yeah. It's just a it's so sad. But, you know, that that dependency that you know from these long from long-term54:10
54 minutes, 10 seconds
relationships um it's just so it's just really sad that both Yeah. both of them. And so, well, we don't know the full story.54:18
54 minutes, 18 seconds
We don't know the story.54:19
54 minutes, 19 seconds
In Vil, Colorado, uh we lost Dale Savage at 62 of a stroke. He became a54:25
54 minutes, 25 seconds
panssexual adult film star at 50. Uh did it for 10 years and then retired to Vale which is a lovely place.54:34
54 minutes, 34 seconds
I
didn't know him before I read this story but I I did do a little uh
research into his work. Um it was uh both extensive and expansive.54:44
54 minutes, 44 seconds
[laughter]54:45
54 minutes, 45 seconds
Uh in Baltimore, Maryland, a transw woman Asia Williams, 38 years old, shot dead in a convenience store, uh54:54
54 minutes, 54 seconds
described by her aunt as a bright light in our lives, full of kindness and love, dedicated uh retail manager and driver55:03
55 minutes, 3 seconds
for Door Dash to support her family. Uh celebration of life this weekend on the55:09
55 minutes, 9 seconds
11th. Uh and there is a an a fund being created These stories have changed over the55:17
55 minutes, 17 seconds
years that we've been doing this. It used to be people who were uh anonymous and uh in and living on the streets and55:24
55 minutes, 24 seconds
and got murdered and now they're people who have uh lives in the community and are respected and loved in the community55:32
55 minutes, 32 seconds
and they're still getting shot and killed.55:35
55 minutes, 35 seconds
Well, and you know, it's a a city in cities and gun violence and there doesn't seem to be any indication that55:42
55 minutes, 42 seconds
um
her death had anything. whatsoever to do with her trans her transit. It
seems like she was in this convenience service. Somebody else was shot
in there as well.55:50
55 minutes, 50 seconds
They're looking for the [clears throat] robbery, what have you.55:54
55 minutes, 54 seconds
But but what's important though is that she wasn't misgendered, right? She was recognized for who who she was.56:00
56 minutes
Like
the reports about her death, you know, included her transness. And I
think that's all right. Uh down to less than two minutes. Uh the country
of Turkey56:09
56 minutes, 9 seconds
rejected
a gay cruise ship that wanted to dock there. And what's shocking to me
is Patty Lup [laughter] and they wouldn't let it dock. What's wrong with
them?56:20
56 minutes, 20 seconds
Silliness.56:20
56 minutes, 20 seconds
As
you said, in Nishair, there's a witch hunt for uh gay people since they
have criminalized homosexuality. They've arrested more than 40 people.
And in56:29
56 minutes, 29 seconds
Sagal, they have banned same-sex marriage. They're trying to eradicate all LGBTQ people. Watch out where you56:37
56 minutes, 37 seconds
travel. Uh you got to get in your favorite wedding.56:40
56 minutes, 40 seconds
Uh yes. [laughter] Uh, well, actually not, but I I did go through the uh guest list of the Taylor and Travis wedding56:48
56 minutes, 48 seconds
looking for gay people who attended and I came across this lovely picture of Abby Wombach and Glenn and Doyle uh56:57
56 minutes, 57 seconds
wedding guests. Also Graham Norton, Gerard Carmichael was there, Lucy Dus, Bowen Yang, uh Ronan Pharaoh, Ice Spice,57:05
57 minutes, 5 seconds
Robin Roberts, Maron Morris, Nissi Nash, Betts, and her wife Jessica. Uh and uh57:14
57 minutes, 14 seconds
but Travis took his bachelor party to a Dave Chappelle show, and the lovely Dave Chappelle said, "It's the only bachelor57:21
57 minutes, 21 seconds
party I've seen that was whoreless."57:25
57 minutes, 25 seconds
[laughter]57:26
57 minutes, 26 seconds
What a classy guy, Dave Chappelle.57:28
57 minutes, 28 seconds
But also on the uh the invitation list at Taylor and Travis's wedding was Stephen J. De J De Jitrio, who's the57:34
57 minutes, 34 seconds
chair of Amentum, which is uh just uh got a $500 million contract with the federal government to build57:42
57 minutes, 42 seconds
concentration camps. Oh my gosh. For immigrants snatched up by ICE.57:46
57 minutes, 46 seconds
That's
not good. Even though Travis and Taylor gave $26 million to good
charities to various charities. All right, that's it. Thank you, Jay.57:55
57 minutes, 55 seconds
Thank you. Ah, pleasure. All right.
