Moral Monday: Prophetic Witness Outside the White House (05/18/2026)
Moral Monday: Prophetic Witness Outside the White House (05/18/2026)
Led by Bishop William Barber, Repairers of the Breach is organizing coordinated nonviolent Moral Monday peace-protest rallies outside the White House and Congressional offices across the country to deepen and escalate nonviolent moral resistance against the unholy and illegal war in the Middle East. We are gathering because our nation continues to spend billions on war while people suffer at home and abroad. We stand against policy violence, abandoned communities, and the normalization of destruction. We come in disciplined, nonviolent, moral witness to call for peace, truth, justice, and the common good. This Moral Monday action comes one day after the White House’s planned “Rededicate 250: A National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise, & Thanksgiving” gathering. Learn more at breachrepairers.org.

We gather today from many faiths, traditions, and paths of conscience.10:48
10 minutes, 48 seconds
Standing together for peace, justice, and the dignity of every human being. In a world wounded by war, violence, fear,10:57

and division, we pray for the courage to choose compassion over cruelty,11:03

Spirit of truth, blow through these streets today. Yes.11:17

11 minutes, 39 seconds
Yes. May those who make decisions remember the the suffering children. The cries of the poor,11:45

and the sacred worth of every human being.11:58

Amen. Amen. A shalom. Shalom. Blessed be and may it be so.12:34
12 minutes, 34 seconds
I'm Alvin Jackson with the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. I'm grateful to Bishop William Barber, Dr.12:42
12 minutes, 42 seconds
Hannah Broom, and the Repairs of the Breach team for calling us to engage in the best of our prophetic traditions.12:49
12 minutes, 49 seconds
Yeah. Yeah. To stand here in a place where politicians abuse power, even right here in front of this White House.12:59
12 minutes, 59 seconds
And so I've come today with all of you and in 16 states across the country to13:06
13 minutes, 6 seconds
say that I may be old and retired and sometimes tired and slow. I may not be at every march13:14
13 minutes, 14 seconds
and
rally, but as long as God gives me breath and strength, I'm going to
stand and speak out uh when we need to stand and speak out.13:26
13 minutes, 26 seconds
We've asked over 12,000 preachers to post and crossost these gatherings.13:33
13 minutes, 33 seconds
We're turning this place into a public place of proclamation.13:38
13 minutes, 38 seconds
Uh a public place of proclamation as we gather here on Mondays.13:44
13 minutes, 44 seconds
And so we have come today for if there ever was a time when we needed to stand and speak out,13:53
13 minutes, 53 seconds
don't you know it's right now? We we we we don't have to we don't have to let the madness of this moment have the last word.14:02
14 minutes, 2 seconds
We don't have to let the madness of this moment have the last word.14:08
14 minutes, 8 seconds
And so we have come to proclaim in this place and to share God's word. What does the what does God require of us but to14:17
14 minutes, 17 seconds
do
justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God. I hate I
despise your religious festivals, your assemblies that are are stench to
me.14:29
14 minutes, 29 seconds
Even though you bring me bread offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them. Though you bring choice fellowship14:37
14 minutes, 37 seconds
offerings, I will have no regard for them uh away with the noise of your songs. I will not listen to the music of14:46
14 minutes, 46 seconds
your heart. But let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an everflowing stream. We have come today14:55
14 minutes, 55 seconds
to say, "Stop the distractions. Stop the war. Stop the violence. Stop the madness.15:03
15 minutes, 3 seconds
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God." a nation already spending 63% of every15:13
15 minutes, 13 seconds
discretionary dollar on bombs and bullets and for a president and Congress to try and increase that spending to15:21
15 minutes, 21 seconds
$1.5 trillion dollar annually and deny the needs of the people is madness.15:28
15 minutes, 28 seconds
There's a whole lot of madness coming out of this house behind us. There's a whole lot of madness on Capitol Hill.15:35
15 minutes, 35 seconds
There's a whole lot of madness coming from the Supreme Court. And we've come today to say, "Stop the madness.15:42
15 minutes, 42 seconds
Stop the madness.15:44
15 minutes, 44 seconds
Denying peace, but choosing an unholy war of choice in Iran is madness.15:50

Denying voting rights is madness.15:53

Denying living wages is madness. Denying freedom from poverty is madness. Denying16:00

16 minutes, 32 seconds
Stop the madness. Stop the war. Stop the violence. Stop the violence. Love16:39

forward. Love forward together. Love forward. Love forward together. Stop the madness.16:48
16 minutes, 48 seconds
Love forward. And not one step back.16:58
16 minutes, 58 seconds
Yes. Tell her introduce need I am Reverend Dr.17:06
17 minutes, 6 seconds
I am Reverend Dr. Dela Owens Barber. I'm here today as a public witness,17:14
17 minutes, 14 seconds
a senior pastor from North Carolina and I am an American. Yeah, but my spirit is troubled17:23
17 minutes, 23 seconds
when I see a golden image of the president erected and I hear of a rededication of the nation.17:32
17 minutes, 32 seconds
I'm trouble because there have not been any repentance.17:38
17 minutes, 38 seconds
If you're going to rededicate, there must first be repentance. And repentance17:45
17 minutes, 45 seconds
is an act of reviewing one's action, feeling genuinely remorse, a contriction17:52
17 minutes, 52 seconds
for past wrongdoings, and making a sincere commitment to personal change17:59
17 minutes, 59 seconds
and better behavior. It involves both a change of heart and an active shift in direction away from negative habits.18:12
18 minutes, 12 seconds
Repent. I say repent for the child slavery of 4.4 million African people in18:22
18 minutes, 22 seconds
the United States that lasted roughly four 246 years.18:30
18 minutes, 30 seconds
Repent for approximately 4,743 people that were lynched in the United States.18:40
18 minutes, 40 seconds
Repent for the trail of tears when between 10,000 and 15,000 Native Americans that18:49
18 minutes, 49 seconds
tried to cross and go and be re re uh relocated in the 1830s, they died.18:58
18 minutes, 58 seconds
Repent.19:00
19 minutes
Repent. repent for refusing to address the 250,00019:06
19 minutes, 6 seconds
people that die every year from poverty and those who die because of denial of19:14
19 minutes, 14 seconds
health care. We I'm calling you to repent. Repent for not having a national19:21
19 minutes, 21 seconds
day of mourning for more than 1.2 million Americans who die from CO globally. 7.1 million who died from CO.19:32
19 minutes, 32 seconds
Repent. Repent for engaging in an unholy war. Repent.19:40
19 minutes, 40 seconds
Repent for creating unjust laws and oppressive policies that exploit the19:48
19 minutes, 48 seconds
poor, the needy, the widow, and the orphan. Repent for engaging in19:55
19 minutes, 55 seconds
unnecessary hurt and violence.20:00
20 minutes
And as we approach Pentecost Sunday, it is my prayer that the Holy Spirit will fall down.20:10
20 minutes, 10 seconds
That the Holy Spirit will fall fresh on this nation.20:15
20 minutes, 15 seconds
That you have turned your hearts away from God. For it is time to turn away20:22
20 minutes, 22 seconds
from the meanness, away from violence, away from hurt, and return to God. For he is the only20:30
20 minutes, 30 seconds
one that can change a stony heart to flesh. For he is the one. Repent20:39
20 minutes, 39 seconds
for the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent.20:51
20 minutes, 51 seconds
This is our moral response to religious nationalism.20:57
20 minutes, 57 seconds
for use faith our faith our God in the name of war21:06
21 minutes, 6 seconds
beloved as we gather today I am Reverend Dr. Hannah R. Broom national scripture, but it crushes the stranger.21:14
21 minutes, 14 seconds
It calls on God, but it cuts out healthcare.21:18
21 minutes, 18 seconds
It waves the flag, but it wages war on the poor.21:22
21 minutes, 22 seconds
It sings hymns, but it silence voters.21:26
21 minutes, 26 seconds
It talks about family values, but abandoned families at the border. It abandoned families in a hospital room.21:34
21 minutes, 34 seconds
It abandoned families in lowwage jobs.21:36
21 minutes, 36 seconds
It
abandoned families and communities left without clean air, clean water,
and real opportunity. And let us say clearly that it is not
righteousness.21:47
21 minutes, 47 seconds
That is religious nationalism dressed up in Sunday clothes.21:52
21 minutes, 52 seconds
The prophets, sages, and sacred truth tellers knew the difference.21:57
21 minutes, 57 seconds
Moses knew the difference when he stood before Pharaoh and said, "Let my people go." Miriam knew the difference when the when22:04
22 minutes, 4 seconds
she sang freedom on the other side of the sea.22:08
22 minutes, 8 seconds
Isaiah knew the difference when he cried, "Woe to those who make unjust laws." Amos knew the difference when he22:15
22 minutes, 15 seconds
thundered,
"Let justice roll down like waters." Micah knew the difference when he
declared that God requires us to do justice, love mercy, and walk
humbly.22:26
22 minutes, 26 seconds
Mary, Jesus's mother, knew the difference when she sang a song of God, who brings down the powerful and lifts up the lowly.22:36
22 minutes, 36 seconds
Jesus knew the difference when he said, "Whatever you do to the least of these, you do also unto me."22:42
22 minutes, 42 seconds
And our Muslim brothers and sisters know the truth is this. The prophet Muhammad, peace be unto him, taught that faith22:50
22 minutes, 50 seconds
cannot be separated from mercy, justice, and the care of our neighbors. The Quran calls people to stand firmly for justice22:58
22 minutes, 58 seconds
even when it cost them something. Our Jewish brothers and sisters know this truth. You cannot claim covenant while23:06
23 minutes, 6 seconds
crushing the stranger, the widow, the orphan, and the poor. Our sik brothers and sisters know this truth. No one is23:14
23 minutes, 14 seconds
high, no one is low, and every human being carries sacred worth. Our Buddhist brothers and sisters know this truth.23:22
23 minutes, 22 seconds
suffering must not be ignored and compassion must become practiced. Our Hindu brothers and sisters know this23:29
23 minutes, 29 seconds
truth. Righteousness is not private belief alone. It is the right action in the world. So let us be clear across23:37
23 minutes, 37 seconds
many truths, across many faiths and our moral convictions. The sacred witness is23:44
23 minutes, 44 seconds
the same. Any religion that makes people disposable is not defending God or the23:51
23 minutes, 51 seconds
great creator. It is defending power and empire.23:56
23 minutes, 56 seconds
Empire always needs religion to make its violence look respectable.24:02
24 minutes, 2 seconds
But we are here to say not in our name not in our not with our scriptures not with our prayers24:11
24 minutes, 11 seconds
not with our pullpits not with our synagogues our synagogues not with our temples24:18
24 minutes, 18 seconds
not with our silence not with our because policy violence is still violence.24:24
24 minutes, 24 seconds
When
a worker cannot live on their wages that is violence. When a
grandmother has to choose between medicine and groceries, that is
violence.24:33
24 minutes, 33 seconds
When voters are pushed out of the democracy by design, that is violence.24:38
24 minutes, 38 seconds
When bombs get funded and bodies get abandoned, that is violence.24:43
24 minutes, 43 seconds
When
a nation can find money for war, but cannot find money for housing,
health care, food, schools, and living wages, that is not a budget
problem.24:52
24 minutes, 52 seconds
That is a moral problem. Yeah.24:54
24 minutes, 54 seconds
And we have come to declare on these sacred streets we have made holy that truth across all faith traditions25:02
25 minutes, 2 seconds
and moral convictions. No one is disposable. The poor is not disposable.25:08
25 minutes, 8 seconds
The children are not disposable. Elders are not disposable. Immigrants are not disposable. Migrants are not disposable.25:16
25 minutes, 16 seconds
Workers are not disposable. LGBTQ community is not disposable. People without health care is not disposable.25:23
25 minutes, 23 seconds
People in war zones is not disposable.25:26
25 minutes, 26 seconds
People
in forgotten counties, abandoned neighborhoods and over police streets
are not disposable. Every person carries sacred growth. Everybody bears
dignity.25:36
25 minutes, 36 seconds
Every community deserves protection. And every policy must be judged by what it does to the least protected among them.25:44
25 minutes, 44 seconds
So I want you to know now, love is not weak.25:47
25 minutes, 47 seconds
Love is not quiet in the face of cruelty. Love does not step aside while people are crushed. Love shows up. Love25:55
25 minutes, 55 seconds
speaks up. Love organizes. Love mobilizes. Love stands in the street. So let the nation hear us and hear us well.26:05
26 minutes, 5 seconds
We will not bow down to religious nationalism. We will not bless policy violence. We will not let cruelty wear26:12
26 minutes, 12 seconds
the name of God. We are here because our faith teaches us better. We are here because our ancestors taught us better.26:19
26 minutes, 19 seconds
Our prophets taught us better. Our mors traditions teach us better. And until justice rolls, until peace is policy,26:28
26 minutes, 28 seconds
until democracy is protected, until the poor are lifted, until every life is treated as sacred, we will keep showing up.26:39
26 minutes, 39 seconds
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Keep showing up. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.26:48
26 minutes, 48 seconds
Can we take this other mic off so we don't get all this reverb and then we don't Can you cut that one off?26:55
26 minutes, 55 seconds
Now, I want to remind us today I'm going to come back later and give us our charge.27:03
27 minutes, 3 seconds
But we're not here in the street today in general. We're here because of what happened yesterday. Somebody say yesterday.27:11
27 minutes, 11 seconds
And yesterday we saw the administration call so-called27:21
27 minutes, 21 seconds
Christian nationalist, I don't use that term, together to rededicate this nation to God.27:32
27 minutes, 32 seconds
To rededicate the nation. And we have to respond.27:37
27 minutes, 37 seconds
But I want y'all to hear something. And I'm I told somebody being a bishop now, I say things that sometimes folk don't27:44
27 minutes, 44 seconds
like, but they need to be said. Okay. Trump ain't the problem.27:55
27 minutes, 55 seconds
Reverend
Dela said something that I want all of us to say for a minute and
Hannah, you pulled on it at the end and Reverend Jackson hit it
something too28:04
28 minutes, 4 seconds
and that is 800 people were dying a day from poverty before Trump.28:10
28 minutes, 10 seconds
Okay, where's the repentance?28:17
28 minutes, 17 seconds
COVID happened and over a million people died. Where was the repentance?28:23
28 minutes, 23 seconds
Reverend Reverend Dell, where was the repentance?28:31
28 minutes, 31 seconds
The Voting Rights Act was gutted in 2013. Why are we just in these streets now?28:40
28 minutes, 40 seconds
That's hard for me to say it. Say it to myself.28:44
28 minutes, 44 seconds
But we can't just point all of this to MAGA. Bye. Byebye.28:52
28 minutes, 52 seconds
A level of madness is the level of quietness of the church of faith in the29:00

face of so much violence, policy violence that wasn't spoken against.29:06
29 minutes, 6 seconds
That opened the door for this unclean spirit that now possesses so much of our democracy.29:17
29 minutes, 17 seconds
I knew y'all get quiet when I said that.29:21
29 minutes, 21 seconds
But I but but Rean told me that in the room. She said, "Re," she said, "bop a bishop, ain't nobody talking about repentance."29:31
29 minutes, 31 seconds
And
I want us to pause for a second because about seven people are going to
come and they're coming to speak against what happened yesterday.29:40
29 minutes, 40 seconds
But yesterday was set up by what had happened yesterday before yesterday. Okay.29:49
29 minutes, 49 seconds
the the the the Pew Foundation found in in in 2018,29:58
29 minutes, 58 seconds
2019 that they studied 50,000 sermons in30:05
30 minutes, 5 seconds
Christian pullpits and found that the issue of poverty and the issues that Jesus started with were30:14
30 minutes, 14 seconds
preached about less than 1% of all the sermons in all the churches and synagogues in my in the nation.30:26
30 minutes, 26 seconds
There is a reality that if we don't grab it, just coming30:34
30 minutes, 34 seconds
down hard on this administration won't be enough. If you remember when when when Joshua and the people lost at Ai30:42
30 minutes, 42 seconds
after they had won at Jericho, God told Joshua, "Check your camp.30:49
30 minutes, 49 seconds
Check
your own camp." When the Philistines beat the people of Israel in the
days of Samuel and they wanted to go back and fight, God said,30:58
30 minutes, 58 seconds
"No, don't go fight. First, go to Mispa and repent." The scriptures tell us in Luke chapter31:05
31 minutes, 5 seconds
11 that that if you clean a house31:12
31 minutes, 12 seconds
and it's not occupied and you leave it unoccupied, then something will come in seven times stronger.31:21
31 minutes, 21 seconds
All of us. And and you say, "Well, remember, I didn't do it. I didn't do it." See, that's not prophetic.31:27
31 minutes, 27 seconds
Prophets repent even if they did the right thing and the people didn't. This is how prophets sound like Isaiah. Lord,31:36
31 minutes, 36 seconds
uh, I'm a man of unclean lips and I live in the midst of a people. In other31:43
31 minutes, 43 seconds
words, you we have to repent for those that don't have sense enough to repent.31:47
31 minutes, 47 seconds
We have to repent for years when we took vacation when we should have been in this street.31:54
31 minutes, 54 seconds
We should have been setting these streets doing rush hour down long before now. And if we repent, then maybe God32:02
32 minutes, 2 seconds
will use our efforts now. But we can act like we did everything right. Trump did32:09
32 minutes, 9 seconds
not get into office because he was so powerful. Trump got into office because too many folk were so apathetic.32:20
32 minutes, 20 seconds
Preach Bishop So I want us before Hannah introduces the others and I try to come back is to32:28
32 minutes, 28 seconds
take five minutes and repent.32:34
32 minutes, 34 seconds
God said to Amos, I can't help you until a crowd gets in32:42
32 minutes, 42 seconds
the street that cries and laments. Turn this mic up. cries and laments and acts as though something is wrong.32:52
32 minutes, 52 seconds
If all you're doing is shouting down Trump, you are missing it.32:57
32 minutes, 57 seconds
This
nation needs a healing greater than Trump being out of office. Because
if you're fighting to go back to normal, you just waiting to set up
Trump too.33:12
33 minutes, 12 seconds
Normacy is not what we need. Repentance is what we need.33:17
33 minutes, 17 seconds
Metadora for all the years.33:25
33 minutes, 25 seconds
Democrats haven't even addressed poverty.33:31
33 minutes, 31 seconds
You can't be scared to say that. I know what they'll say. You don't be beating up on us. It's not about beating up on anybody.33:40
33 minutes, 40 seconds
Folk
met in the street in Montgomery this weekend. I know we help put money
down there. We put people. But why did it take from 213 to 226 after we
lost?33:57
33 minutes, 57 seconds
Think about that. After we lost.34:04
34 minutes, 4 seconds
So
those of you that are coming to react to tomorrow, bring the word that
is in you. But let's take three more minutes of quietness.34:15
34 minutes, 15 seconds
and and um just repent and and Freddy, I don't know where you34:24
34 minutes, 24 seconds
are, anybody, but what we really need is what Ketta Scott King sung after they murdered her husband.34:33
34 minutes, 33 seconds
Come by here, my Lord.34:39
34 minutes, 39 seconds
Come by here.34:44
34 minutes, 44 seconds
Come by here, my Lord. Come by here.34:54
34 minutes, 54 seconds
Come by here, my Lord. Come by here.35:03
35 minutes, 3 seconds
Oh, come by.35:10
35 minutes, 10 seconds
We've not repented, Lord.35:17
35 minutes, 17 seconds
Our nation hasn't repented, Lord.35:24
35 minutes, 24 seconds
We've not repented, Lord.35:31
35 minutes, 31 seconds
Oh Lord, come by here.35:38
35 minutes, 38 seconds
This is a crying time. All right, hand.35:45
35 minutes, 45 seconds
This is a crying.35:56
35 minutes, 56 seconds
Hung by here.36:00
36 minutes
Oh Lord, hung by here.36:07
36 minutes, 7 seconds
All of our sacred texts speaks against idolatry.36:14
36 minutes, 14 seconds
We have Reverend Sandy Sor that's going to come and give us a word.36:25
36 minutes, 25 seconds
Sandy Sorenson with the United Church of Christ. Yesterday on the mall, we saw a grandiose display of false religiosity36:34
36 minutes, 34 seconds
and the power of empire cloaked in Christian nationalism. It's up.36:39
36 minutes, 39 seconds
But the biblical prophets are clear. God takes no delight in your solemn assemblies. God despises your festivals.36:49
36 minutes, 49 seconds
Without repentance, without love and justice, the empty display of false religion we saw yesterday is nothing but36:57
36 minutes, 57 seconds
an attempt to conceal the policy violence and corruption of this administration and all who enable it.37:04
37 minutes, 4 seconds
Yeah, it is an affront to the God of justice who centers those that the powerful dismisses as the last, the37:13
37 minutes, 13 seconds
least, the disposable. But God is not deceived. God will not be mocked.37:20
37 minutes, 20 seconds
And we are not fooled and we are not distracted.37:24
37 minutes, 24 seconds
We will not allow our faith to be hijacked by conmen and charlatans who only seek their own gain. Here today we37:33
37 minutes, 33 seconds
affir affirm the truth and calling of our many religious traditions. We will do justice. We will love kindness and mercy.37:42
37 minutes, 42 seconds
We will walk humbly.37:44
37 minutes, 44 seconds
We will walk together in beloved community where all are welcomed in the fullness of their humanity.37:50
37 minutes, 50 seconds
We will live out loud in our common life.37:54
37 minutes, 54 seconds
We will continue to cry out and act for an end to this war to save lives. to stop the policy38:02
38 minutes, 2 seconds
violence that tramples the poor and the mar marginalized.38:07
38 minutes, 7 seconds
We will move forward together in love and not one step back.38:25
38 minutes, 25 seconds
some. Yeah. Uhhuh.38:29
38 minutes, 29 seconds
Reverend M. Polus Norris from the 7th Day Adventist Church is going to bring us a word.38:36
38 minutes, 36 seconds
Right. As well as uh Reverend Adam Taylor from Sir Jouers.38:46
38 minutes, 46 seconds
Amen.38:48
38 minutes, 48 seconds
As you heard, my name is Milo Norris and I stand before you as the proud American son of South African immigrants, a union38:57
38 minutes, 57 seconds
worker, and as an Adventist Christian concerned with the soon return of our Lord Jesus Christ and his judgment.39:06
39 minutes, 6 seconds
God's wrath is kindled against our nation for committing the great sin of taking the Lord's name in vain and39:13
39 minutes, 13 seconds
abusing it. Our leaders claim we're a Christian nation. Yet, they have shown themselves diametrically opposed to all39:21
39 minutes, 21 seconds
that is called by Jesus Christ and his gospel.39:25
39 minutes, 25 seconds
They
are those who call wars of choice holy wars, recklessly massacring the
innocent bodies of our brethren, the Arabs and Muslims.39:35
39 minutes, 35 seconds
Judgment is set against imperial greed, which cries liberty while serving American oligarchy.39:43
39 minutes, 43 seconds
Yet the Christ of the Bible says that the peacemakers will be called the children of God, but all liars and all39:52
39 minutes, 52 seconds
murderers will have their part in the lake of fire.39:57
39 minutes, 57 seconds
Mr. Speaker, Mr. Johnson gerrymandering and blocking congressional representation of not just DC but Puerto40:06
40 minutes, 6 seconds
Rico, the US Virgin Islands, warm American Samoa denies the creator who made every human fearfully and wonderfully.40:16
40 minutes, 16 seconds
Mr. President, Mr. Trump abusing the Lord's name is profiting billions from40:23
40 minutes, 23 seconds
predatory betting sites, fake currencies, imaginary mobile phones while robbing Americans of essential40:32
40 minutes, 32 seconds
services while they're crushed with trillions in debt.40:36
40 minutes, 36 seconds
And perhaps worst of all, abusing the name of Christ is defending the Epstein40:42
40 minutes, 42 seconds
class of sexual abusers, pedophiles, and rapists, turning our country into modernday Sodom and Gomorrah.40:55
40 minutes, 55 seconds
The
prophet Isaiah describes the spiritual pathology of America today.
America serves Jesus with her lips, but her heart is far from him.41:09
41 minutes, 9 seconds
And so the name of the Lord is blasphemed.41:12
41 minutes, 12 seconds
By
your fruits, America, you show yourselves not servants of Jesus, but
servants of money, the Antichrist, and Satan, despising the Savior.41:25
41 minutes, 25 seconds
All you who profess America first and all you who profess MAGA, put on the41:32
41 minutes, 32 seconds
mind of Christ who said the first and the greatest in the kingdom of heaven must become the servant of all.41:42
41 minutes, 42 seconds
We as a nation have fallen into the leodian stuper.41:50
41 minutes, 50 seconds
We
boast on the world stage that we are blessed by God. We are in need of
nothing, not realizing that we are poor, blind, and naked. In closing,
Mr.42:02
42 minutes, 2 seconds
president. Just yesterday at rededication 250, you yourself prophesied over this nation in quoting 242:09
42 minutes, 9 seconds
Chronicles
7, the legacy of America's past sins, genocide, slavery, and
exploitation continue to echo today, and God will not contend with you
forever.42:22
42 minutes, 22 seconds
Today, God is pleading with us to repent, accept the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ alone.42:30
42 minutes, 30 seconds
tear the garments of your soul and obey the uncction of the Holy Ghost.42:36
42 minutes, 36 seconds
Mr. President, you quoted this yesterday. 2 Chronicles 7:14.42:42
42 minutes, 42 seconds
Oh leaders of America, if you are truly called by the name of Christ, humble42:48
42 minutes, 48 seconds
yourselves and pray and seek God's face, turn from their wicked ways, and then42:55
42 minutes, 55 seconds
and only then will God hear from heaven, forgive your sin, and heal this land.43:04
43 minutes, 4 seconds
Adam Taylor is coming now, and he would be followed by Bishop Bill Hirsch. All right.43:11
43 minutes, 11 seconds
Reverend
Adam Taylor, I have the privilege of serving as a president of
Sojoners. I want to thank Bishop Arbor and others who have reminded us
of the43:19
43 minutes, 19 seconds
call to repentance which is desperately in this time.43:23
43 minutes, 23 seconds
There's
a word from the Lord in the Gospel of Matthew. And I'm a Baptist
preacher. So I want you to turn to your neighbor and say, "Weigh your
matters.43:32
43 minutes, 32 seconds
Weigh your matters." In this text, Matthew 25,43:42
43 minutes, 42 seconds
we see Jesus boldly and provocatively challenging the religious hypocrisy of43:50
43 minutes, 50 seconds
his time. This is not a mild and meek Jesus. No, this is our Lord and43:57
43 minutes, 57 seconds
Liberator who is filled with righteous indignation about the hypocrisy of the Pharisees of his time because that44:06
44 minutes, 6 seconds
hypocrisy has oppressive and harmful realworld consequences to the disinherited and it corrupts the faith.44:17
44 minutes, 17 seconds
He says, "Woe to you teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You give a tenth of your spices, mint, dill, and44:26
44 minutes, 26 seconds
cumin. But you have neglected the weightier matters of the law, justice, mercy, and faithfulness.44:38
44 minutes, 38 seconds
I too am filled with righteous in the nation. When I think about all that transpired on the mall yesterday at the44:46
44 minutes, 46 seconds
rededicate 250 and national jubilee of prayer, praise and thanksgiving ceremony.44:54
44 minutes, 54 seconds
I believe that that ceremony, the Christian nationalism that we saw platformed and privileged on the45:01
45 minutes, 1 second
National Mall with, yes, some of our taxpayer money is not only an egregious violation of45:09
45 minutes, 9 seconds
the
separation of church and state, but it is a threat to our very
democracy and a threat to the integrity of our Christian witness.45:19
45 minutes, 19 seconds
Let's
be clear. We believe in the power of prayer. We believe that it's
important to pray for nations and to pray for our elected officials.45:27
45 minutes, 27 seconds
But that is fundamentally different than people praying that that that our religiously plural pluralistic nation45:35
45 minutes, 35 seconds
should be rededicated to their ideologically narrow version of God.45:42
45 minutes, 42 seconds
What we saw in the mall was a effort and a a historical and revisionist effort to pretend that our founding fathers45:50
45 minutes, 50 seconds
somehow wanted us to be an overtly Christian nation despite the fact that they had the foresight and the brilliance to make our45:58
45 minutes, 58 seconds
first amendment the very amendment that protects our religious freedom and precludes any establishment of religion.46:07
46 minutes, 7 seconds
What
we saw in the mall was an effort to bless and anoint the Trump
administration's leaders, dangerously giving religious cover to policies
and46:15
46 minutes, 15 seconds
rhetoric that directly betray Jesus' call to prioritize the weightier matters of the law.46:24
46 minutes, 24 seconds
I find it striking that the event referenced Jubilee.46:29
46 minutes, 29 seconds
And I wonder, do they even understand what biblical jubilee is all about? The call in the book of the living that46:36
46 minutes, 36 seconds
every seven times seven years we are called to commit to a radical reordering and transformation of our46:44
46 minutes, 44 seconds
society where debts are forgiven where the captives are set free and where the land is left.46:52
46 minutes, 52 seconds
But
instead of jubilee what don't we see skyrocketing credit card debt
inflation and support for an immoral and illegal war in Iran.47:03
47 minutes, 3 seconds
But we are here to remind this nation and this White House that it's and its religious supporters47:11
47 minutes, 11 seconds
that Jesus stood for the weightier matters of justice of mercy and faithfulness. And if we who call47:19
47 minutes, 19 seconds
ourselves
Christian are going to be followers of Jesus, we too must courageously
defend and advocate on those weightier matters as well.47:30
47 minutes, 30 seconds
Matter of fail. So journ uh the Reverend Claudia Allen from the 7th Adventist Church will come followed by the47:39
47 minutes, 39 seconds
Reverend Dr. Christopher Zachcharias from the EM Zion Church followed by Reverend Doug. Yes. Yes. Yes. Yeah.47:46
47 minutes, 46 seconds
As
a good bishop said, "My name is Claudia Allen of Adventist Peace and my
siblings in Christ, the first amendment is not a suggestion.47:57
47 minutes, 57 seconds
It is the foundation." Exodus 20:es 2-3, the Bible says, "I am the Lord thy God.48:04
48 minutes, 4 seconds
Y'all shall have no other gods before me. Before thou shalt not kill, before thou shalt not steal. Before, remember48:13
48 minutes, 13 seconds
the Sabbath day, God says, "Worship no one and no thing but me." And yet,48:21
48 minutes, 21 seconds
we had the audacity to sit here and watch them claim to rededicate America.48:29
48 minutes, 29 seconds
Reverend Dr. Dela Barber mentioned this earlier at the Trump National Doral.48:35
48 minutes, 35 seconds
They unveiled a 22 foot statue of the president of the United States. Gold48:42
48 minutes, 42 seconds
leafed fist raised dedicated by a pastor blessed in the name of Jesus. And they called it Don Colossus.48:53
48 minutes, 53 seconds
staring at the image of this golden statue, this golden idol beckoning the worship of America. I was reminded of49:01
49 minutes, 1 second
Daniel 3 where the scripture declares that Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold and set it up in the plain49:09
49 minutes, 9 seconds
of Dura. And the Bible says that the decree went out and the music played and the Babylonian nationalists bowed down49:18
49 minutes, 18 seconds
and worshiped the golden idol except for three.49:23
49 minutes, 23 seconds
Shadrach, Meach, and Abedneo, they did not bow, family. But I need you to know that this is the script of empire. Build49:31
49 minutes, 31 seconds
a statue, demand the people's worship, and burn the denters. This is what Christian nationalism is. It is not49:40
49 minutes, 40 seconds
Christianity. It is idolatry. It is nationalism with an altar built to their God of power, greed, and war. And like49:49
49 minutes, 49 seconds
those three Hebrew boys, we will not bow down.49:53
49 minutes, 53 seconds
We will not bow as they baptize cruelty and call it policy. We will not bow down as they cage the stranger that scripture50:01
50 minutes, 1 second
has told us to welcome. We will not bow down as they bomb Iran. We will not bow because Daniel 4 reminds us that every50:11
50 minutes, 11 seconds
golden statue falls, every empire will kneel before the true king of kings and50:17
50 minutes, 17 seconds
the lord of lords. So in the face of m redistricting, we will not bow. In the face of corporate greed, uh we will not50:26
50 minutes, 26 seconds
bow. Uh in the face of starving children, uh we will not bow. Uh in the face of homeless families, uh we will50:35
50 minutes, 35 seconds
not bow. Uh in the face of inaccessibility to health care, we will not bow. In the face of Christian50:43
50 minutes, 43 seconds
nationalism, we will not bow.50:52
50 minutes, 52 seconds
Good afternoon. My name is Clinton Wright and I'm a senior social justice organizer at Repairs the Breach. And I50:59
50 minutes, 59 seconds
am a 10-year veteran elementary school teacher. And I'm here today because there is a war on our students. There51:08
51 minutes, 8 seconds
are bombs dropping every day on our public schools. The bombs of underfunding.51:14
51 minutes, 14 seconds
In my state, North Carolina, our teachers themselves are struggling to put food on their tables. They're51:22
51 minutes, 22 seconds
struggling to pay rent because they are paid poverty wages. They haven't gotten51:29
51 minutes, 29 seconds
the raise that they were promised by both the Democrats and the Republicans in our state legislature. Our students51:37
51 minutes, 37 seconds
in North Carolina are being held hostage by the magalled general assembly who is51:44
51 minutes, 44 seconds
hellbent on weasling funding away from our public schools in order to fund the51:50
51 minutes, 50 seconds
violent and unconstitutional plague of school privatization. Our legislature in51:58
51 minutes, 58 seconds
North Carolina, our US Congress, and this administration are in bipartisan support of sending their military and52:07
52 minutes, 7 seconds
ICE recruiters to our public schools to groom our children, recruiting them into the death dealing cult of the US52:15
52 minutes, 15 seconds
military war machine. This war is deeply connected to our public schools. We52:22
52 minutes, 22 seconds
fight here today for fully funded public schools from Head Start to PhDs because52:30
52 minutes, 30 seconds
as we learned in our kindergarten classrooms, we stand up to our bullies.52:35
52 minutes, 35 seconds
We do it nonviolently and we boldly declare to our state legislators, to Congress, and to the president of the52:43
52 minutes, 43 seconds
United States that we conscientiously object to your war, to your attacks on our children and our schools. Fund52:52
52 minutes, 52 seconds
public education, not war and violence. Fund teachers, not bombs and drones. Fund children, not ICE.53:04
53 minutes, 4 seconds
Yeah, my name is Reverend Dr. Christopher Zacharias, pastor of John Wesley Am Zion53:12
53 minutes, 12 seconds
Church. And we have heard the call to rededicate this nation to God. But we must ask whose real name of God are we53:20
53 minutes, 20 seconds
calling
upon and on whose backs? Because the prophet Isaiah heard God say
plainly that these people honor them with our lips, but their hearts are
far from me.53:31
53 minutes, 31 seconds
And what was the evidence of that distance? We must read the prophet Isaiah 58 just verses before the promise53:38
53 minutes, 38 seconds
of the repairers of the breach. You will find God's indictment. They fasted while exploiting the workers. They prayed53:46
53 minutes, 46 seconds
while the poor went hungry. They called on God's name while the homeless had no shelter and the oppressed had no relief.53:54
53 minutes, 54 seconds
The Apostle Paul spoke about it in Galatians with a word that cuts through every ceremony. God is not mocked. You54:03
54 minutes, 3 seconds
cannot sow neglect of the poor and reap God's blessing on a nation. You cannot sow policies that crush the widow, crush54:12
54 minutes, 12 seconds
the
immigrant, crush the worker and the child and stand at an altar and
call on the consecration of America. The repairs of the breach stand
today and know this.54:24
54 minutes, 24 seconds
They are not called to bless what is broken. They are called to rebuild and to rededicate does not begin with a54:32
54 minutes, 32 seconds
ceremony. It begins with repentance. It reins begins with loose the chains of injustice. Share your bread with the54:40
54 minutes, 40 seconds
hungry. Bring the homeless into the house and cover the naked. That's what God calls for rededication. So we will54:49
54 minutes, 49 seconds
not lend our amens to rededication that ask God to bless a nation while the54:55
54 minutes, 55 seconds
least of these are still waiting and wanting and hurting. We speak today from the bottom, from the margins, from the55:04
55 minutes, 4 seconds
forgotten communities, from those whose labor built this country in the first place and whose prayers still hold it55:12
55 minutes, 12 seconds
together. So we are not mocking God. We are asking those from white Christian nationalism, stop mocking God. Repair55:21
55 minutes, 21 seconds
the breach by doing justice, loving mercy, and then and only then can we rededicate America forward together.55:32
55 minutes, 32 seconds
Yes, sir. Yes, sir.55:44
55 minutes, 44 seconds
My my my. So, what do we do with all of this?55:52
55 minutes, 52 seconds
What do we do with all of this?55:56
55 minutes, 56 seconds
I was thinking as I was sitting there, what if this was the kind of56:03
56 minutes, 3 seconds
preaching that was happening all over the country.56:12
56 minutes, 12 seconds
Yesterday when we saw National Idol worship day,56:22
56 minutes, 22 seconds
National Idol worship Day, called by MAGA56:29
56 minutes, 29 seconds
madness where people are trying to56:38
56 minutes, 38 seconds
dedicate rededicate us to something that never was. The founders were not Christian they were56:45
56 minutes, 45 seconds
theist and even in the founding they were flawed.56:51
56 minutes, 51 seconds
Okay. Okay. They were flawed.56:58
56 minutes, 58 seconds
It was so flawed that Thomas Jefferson once said, "When I consider that God is just57:07
57 minutes, 7 seconds
and I look at the actions of this nation and know that his justice will not sleep forever.57:19
57 minutes, 19 seconds
I tremble for this nation."57:26
57 minutes, 26 seconds
What we saw yesterday is as bad as people coming to a Martin Luther King57:36
57 minutes, 36 seconds
celebration and after the celebration not engaging in passing the policies he stood for.57:43
57 minutes, 43 seconds
Well, well, and if we don't speak out against things57:51
57 minutes, 51 seconds
like that, we actually open up the door for things like what we saw yesterday. Right. Right.57:57
57 minutes, 57 seconds
How many times have you seen folk put on the MLK program and have people speak at that program that are actively fighting58:05
58 minutes, 5 seconds
the very things that Dr. King stood for?58:11
58 minutes, 11 seconds
I I'm coming from a different place today because I'm stuck in this call for repentance. You know, I was thrown out58:19
58 minutes, 19 seconds
of a church, a black church in Selma for standing up when the attorney58:28
58 minutes, 28 seconds
general of Alabama said that voting rights, voting ID laws were a tribute to58:35
58 minutes, 35 seconds
the people that walked across the Edmonds Petty Bridge.58:40
58 minutes, 40 seconds
And when I stood up with my friend uh Bob Zelnner and Kittton and others,58:47
58 minutes, 47 seconds
about
50 of us, the pastor stood up and said, "Wait a minute. We let
everybody speak in this church." And I said, "But he's lying.58:59
58 minutes, 59 seconds
He's lying in front of the pews where the blood is still stained that they were that poured out of them in 1965."59:07
59 minutes, 7 seconds
And he said to me and them, "Leave." And then afterwards said, "You know, we59:15
59 minutes, 15 seconds
got to raise some money." It's because we don't challenge59:26
59 minutes, 26 seconds
foolishness that more foolishness occurs. All right.59:35
59 minutes, 35 seconds
any gathering, including the one yesterday that claims59:43
59 minutes, 43 seconds
to be representing faith or religious faith, that doesn't speak out against59:50
59 minutes, 50 seconds
unholy war, that doesn't challenge poverty and the death.1:00:00
1 hour
My brothers and sisters, think about how many religious events we're having in this nation1:00:08
1 hour, 8 seconds
while 800 people are dying a day from poverty.1:00:13
1 hour, 13 seconds
When 500 people were dying a day from COVID, we called it a what?1:00:20
1 hour, 20 seconds
And
yet now what do people say politically? Uh now they're saying we have
to address what what's the new a word? Why can't they say poverty?1:00:33
1 hour, 33 seconds
See, when you don't call it what it is, what happened yesterday happens.1:00:40
1 hour, 40 seconds
The longer we are lukewarm in our critique, it opens up the door for this kind of foolishness.1:00:51
1 hour, 51 seconds
any gathering that calls itself religious and claiming to serve God that doesn't speak out against the denial of1:00:59
1 hour, 59 seconds
voting rights is contrary.1:01:03
1 hour, 1 minute, 3 seconds
You know voting rights is not something somebody gave you. Voting right is a gift of your humanity. It is a gift of1:01:12
1 hour, 1 minute, 12 seconds
being made in the image of God. Is a part of what means to be made in the imi.1:01:17
1 hour, 1 minute, 17 seconds
See, a dog can't choose to be anything but a dog.1:01:23
1 hour, 1 minute, 23 seconds
A rat can't choose to be anything but a rat.1:01:27
1 hour, 1 minute, 27 seconds
But God gave human beings free will, choice.1:01:33
1 hour, 1 minute, 33 seconds
And whenever somebody tries to take away your ability to choose, they are suggesting you're not human.1:01:44
1 hour, 1 minute, 44 seconds
You're not made in the image of God.1:01:46
1 hour, 1 minute, 46 seconds
and then to try to cloak that whether it's actively fighting against1:01:53
1 hour, 1 minute, 53 seconds
voting rights or passively refusing to do what you promised John Lewis is1:02:02
1 hour, 2 minutes, 2 seconds
all sin. You know how many Congress people promised John Lewis before he died they were going to pass the Voting Rights Act?1:02:11
1 hour, 2 minutes, 11 seconds
And
if it had happened what the Supreme Court would not have been able to
do what they did a few weeks ago. Come on, talk to me. If this is going
to be a1:02:19
1 hour, 2 minutes, 19 seconds
pull pit for preaching, we going to be real.1:02:23
1 hour, 2 minutes, 23 seconds
Anybody that's denying health care and and for every 500,000 people that are denied health care, 2500 people die.1:02:35
1 hour, 2 minutes, 35 seconds
In fact, you should know that every piece of policy violence has a death measurement. I didn't know that until we1:02:44
1 hour, 2 minutes, 44 seconds
started
working with these um uh think tanks and one day one of them said, "Re
bar, do you know that every piece of policy violence has a death
measurement?1:02:55
1 hour, 2 minutes, 55 seconds
Vote denial of voting rights, denial of healthcare, denial of climate change. It has a death measurement.1:03:05
1 hour, 3 minutes, 5 seconds
People die.1:03:09
1 hour, 3 minutes, 9 seconds
denying immigrant rights.1:03:13
1 hour, 3 minutes, 13 seconds
You know why a part of yesterday was possible?1:03:17
1 hour, 3 minutes, 17 seconds
Because
when Trump came down that escalator and declared that Mexicans were
rapists and abusers, the church didn't speak out in mass.1:03:31
1 hour, 3 minutes, 31 seconds
I said in mass, maybe here and there, but there was not a man say, "Uh-uh.1:03:36
1 hour, 3 minutes, 36 seconds
This
can't No, you can't run for president in a in a country of immigrants.
There was not a Cuz most folks said, "See, that's them." Right. Right.1:03:47
1 hour, 3 minutes, 47 seconds
Cuz the truth of the matter is some of us don't like the immigrants.1:03:55
1 hour, 3 minutes, 55 seconds
Truth of the m some black folk don't like Native Americans.1:04:01
1 hour, 4 minutes, 1 second
Some white folk don't like there was Barbara my dear and she's one of my heroes out of Texas. Barbara1:04:09
1 hour, 4 minutes, 9 seconds
Jordan spoke against immigrant and if you don't challenge it1:04:18
1 hour, 4 minutes, 18 seconds
in every place it opens up and and what somebody say behind me say that again. and in ourselves.1:04:28
1 hour, 4 minutes, 28 seconds
I don't trust nobody that that can at least say I'm a I'm a constantly recovering racist1:04:38
1 hour, 4 minutes, 38 seconds
and I'm black and I'll say that God's got to keep on working on me. Some of the stuff that white people did to me1:04:45
1 hour, 4 minutes, 45 seconds
developed in me are hatred for a more and God had to pull it out and he's still working on it.1:04:58
1 hour, 4 minutes, 58 seconds
What happens like what happened yesterday doesn't just happen.1:05:03
1 hour, 5 minutes, 3 seconds
What doesn't just what doesn't happen any any gathering that doesn't do what Jesus said to nation. If if a nation is1:05:11
1 hour, 5 minutes, 11 seconds
going to be righteous, did you feed the hungry? Did you visit the sick, heal the sick? Did you visit the prison? Did you1:05:19
1 hour, 5 minutes, 19 seconds
welcome the immorate? Did you take care of the stranger? Those are the questions of whether or not a nation1:05:26
1 hour, 5 minutes, 26 seconds
is even attempting to try. And and and we have to we have to confess and repent in this moment of1:05:36
1 hour, 5 minutes, 36 seconds
both the active injustice and the passive aggression.1:05:45
1 hour, 5 minutes, 45 seconds
You have never heard in a presidential uh debate in your life the issue of1:05:51
1 hour, 5 minutes, 51 seconds
poverty taken up for one hour and we're not so we're not even asking1:05:58
1 hour, 5 minutes, 58 seconds
people who run to lead this country where if you get elected if you get a majority what will you do on these1:06:05
1 hour, 6 minutes, 5 seconds
issues
which is why even now as we see people wanting to run for office I
don't want to hear personally anymore how much you're against Trump. We
got that.1:06:16
1 hour, 6 minutes, 16 seconds
I want to know if you get a majority, what are you going to do in the first 50 days? Because critique does not keep people.1:06:25
1 hour, 6 minutes, 25 seconds
Critique can exhaust you.1:06:28
1 hour, 6 minutes, 28 seconds
Somewhere there must be a vision. Write the vision, make it plain, and then the people can run.1:06:35
1 hour, 6 minutes, 35 seconds
You can't run with critique. You only run with vision.1:06:42
1 hour, 6 minutes, 42 seconds
What happened yesterday was Trump worship. It was heresy.1:06:52
1 hour, 6 minutes, 52 seconds
Every media company that ran it without a critique ought to be ashamed.1:06:59
1 hour, 6 minutes, 59 seconds
They should have had preachers on CNN and on MSNBC questioning.1:07:04
1 hour, 7 minutes, 4 seconds
How
do you claim to be Christian and you never called the name of Jesus?
And certainly you never even called the thing Jesus cared about. Help me
a little bit with this Mike.1:07:14
1 hour, 7 minutes, 14 seconds
But I got a question for you cuz this was what we saw was irrelig. It was irreligious.1:07:21
1 hour, 7 minutes, 21 seconds
And I heard my dear sister and my wife bring up this question. They built this 21 ft statue1:07:28
1 hour, 7 minutes, 28 seconds
the week before this trump colossus.1:07:33
1 hour, 7 minutes, 33 seconds
And I heard my dear sister say that in Daniel 3, Nebuchadnezzar did the same thing.1:07:41
1 hour, 7 minutes, 41 seconds
And I'm thank my sister for bringing up that Shedrach, Mach, and Abedneo didn't bow.1:07:49
1 hour, 7 minutes, 49 seconds
But I want to flip it over and ask another question.1:07:53
1 hour, 7 minutes, 53 seconds
Did Nebuchadnezzar build it because he knew only three wouldn't bow?1:08:10
1 hour, 8 minutes, 10 seconds
What gave Nebuchadnezzar the courage?1:08:15
1 hour, 8 minutes, 15 seconds
There's no record that it says anybody had ever done that before in Babylon.1:08:22
1 hour, 8 minutes, 22 seconds
And yet Nebuchadnezzar surveyed the country and found that the apathy was so high1:08:31
1 hour, 8 minutes, 31 seconds
And the resistance was so low that most people would just go along to get along.1:08:39
1 hour, 8 minutes, 39 seconds
See
the tragedy of that text is it's it's not that the as one said the fact
that Nebuchad Shadrach and Meshach and Abedneo didn't bow. That's the1:08:48
1 hour, 8 minutes, 48 seconds
anti-limax. The climax is even if God doesn't rescue it.1:08:54
1 hour, 8 minutes, 54 seconds
Sir that's the climax.1:08:59
1 hour, 8 minutes, 59 seconds
Even if God doesn't rescue us, we still not going to bow.1:09:04
1 hour, 9 minutes, 4 seconds
And and the other part of it is why only three?1:09:09
1 hour, 9 minutes, 9 seconds
Do you realize that every time we say we're not going to bow, but every time 90 million people don't vote, we are bowing.1:09:23
1 hour, 9 minutes, 23 seconds
For 13 years, we didn't fix the voting rights act. We are bowing.1:09:31
1 hour, 9 minutes, 31 seconds
The
reason that you can come in Washington DC and not 500 clergy have ever
done a sitting in the capital or in the legislative hall in this nation.1:09:42
1 hour, 9 minutes, 42 seconds
We are bowing when you want statehood but every s every person in DC doesn't stand up and demand it. We are powering.1:09:58
1 hour, 9 minutes, 58 seconds
If you have called your friends and asked them where are you on tomorrow month, where are you?1:10:05
1 hour, 10 minutes, 5 seconds
Why aren't you with me? In a sense, we are bound.1:10:11
1 hour, 10 minutes, 11 seconds
200 clergy can't go in every state capital in this country and sit down1:10:19
1 hour, 10 minutes, 19 seconds
with placards on their chest saying, "I'm here until you pass policies that'll lift the poor. I'm here until1:10:27
1 hour, 10 minutes, 27 seconds
you
give everybody healthcare. I'm here until you pass voting rights in
this state capital. I'm here until you treat everybody right. We are
bowing.1:10:42
1 hour, 10 minutes, 42 seconds
You and I must know we've been we've been bowing a long time in this nation. That's the problem.1:10:50
1 hour, 10 minutes, 50 seconds
But MAGA didn't start with Trump. It started with Reagan. Come on now.1:10:56
1 hour, 10 minutes, 56 seconds
I wish I had an amen here. It was Reagan. Yeah. Yeah.1:11:04
1 hour, 11 minutes, 4 seconds
Standing in Mississippi. in money Philadelphia, Mississippi. Money, Mississippi. Yeah. Yeah.1:11:12
1 hour, 11 minutes, 12 seconds
Where Swana Chaining Goodman had been killed.1:11:16
1 hour, 11 minutes, 16 seconds
And he used the backdrop of that racist symbolism to declare if you elect me, America will be great again.1:11:27
1 hour, 11 minutes, 27 seconds
Trump wasn't smart enough to come up with it. No.1:11:32
1 hour, 11 minutes, 32 seconds
But it has it lasted. It took root because too many are bowing.1:11:40
1 hour, 11 minutes, 40 seconds
My my my.1:11:43
1 hour, 11 minutes, 43 seconds
Why is it we haven't raised the minimum wage since 2009 and we've had Democrats in both the1:11:51
1 hour, 11 minutes, 51 seconds
House
and the Senate and the White House. When you don't raise minimum wage,
when you got the power, you open up what happened yesterday.1:12:03
1 hour, 12 minutes, 3 seconds
When you don't pass voting rights when you have the power, you open up what happened yesterday.1:12:10
1 hour, 12 minutes, 10 seconds
When you don't do DC statehood, you lie to folk and tell them if they elect you.1:12:15
1 hour, 12 minutes, 15 seconds
And
when they get elected, you say, "Well, now we've got to work together
and compromise." You open up what happened yesterday, I knew it was
going to get quiet.1:12:26
1 hour, 12 minutes, 26 seconds
When you pass the Affordable Care Act, rather than passing universal healthcare, you open up1:12:35
1 hour, 12 minutes, 35 seconds
you open up the opportunity for mean, angry, greedy, anti-American, anti-Christian,1:12:43
1 hour, 12 minutes, 43 seconds
anti-faith movements to exist.1:12:50
1 hour, 12 minutes, 50 seconds
So, let me close what we saw. Lord, help me today1:12:59
1 hour, 12 minutes, 59 seconds
cuz I know the words are going to going to bring pain.1:13:08
1 hour, 13 minutes, 8 seconds
But yesterday was wickedness.1:13:15
1 hour, 13 minutes, 15 seconds
And those that ordained it and blessed it participated in wickedness. Yeah.1:13:23
1 hour, 13 minutes, 23 seconds
And
it would be wickedness if Democrats were doing it. It'd be wickedness.
I'm just saying it would that that not is wickedness. You said, "Baba,
why would you say that? You know where you are.1:13:32
1 hour, 13 minutes, 32 seconds
You know how many people are listening. You know what it might cause?" Yes. Yeah.1:13:36
1 hour, 13 minutes, 36 seconds
But in Hebrew, Hannah, the word wicked is Russia.1:13:42
1 hour, 13 minutes, 42 seconds
And wickedness in the Bible, particularly in the Old Testament, is three things. deliberate disregard1:13:51
1 hour, 13 minutes, 51 seconds
for justice, intentional exploitation, and the refusal to repent.1:14:02
1 hour, 14 minutes, 2 seconds
That's what wickedness is, right?1:14:04
1 hour, 14 minutes, 4 seconds
Wickedness is not somebody smoking a blunt that wickedness is not somebody having premarital sex.1:14:17
1 hour, 14 minutes, 17 seconds
Wickedness Russia is whenever there is a deliberate1:14:26
1 hour, 14 minutes, 26 seconds
disregard for justice and you try to worship without addressing justice.1:14:33
1 hour, 14 minutes, 33 seconds
Wickedness is intentional exploitation.1:14:41
1 hour, 14 minutes, 41 seconds
Wickedness is the refusal to repent of destroying1:14:48
1 hour, 14 minutes, 48 seconds
innocent lives lives through policy and war.1:14:54
1 hour, 14 minutes, 54 seconds
Wickedness is oppression of the vulnerable.1:15:00
1 hour, 15 minutes
Wickedness is targeting the helpless and hunting down and kicking on and plotting against1:15:08
1 hour, 15 minutes, 8 seconds
the poor and the widows and the children.1:15:13
1 hour, 15 minutes, 13 seconds
Wickedness is using dishonest scales and making money off of your political position and1:15:22
1 hour, 15 minutes, 22 seconds
stealing land and refusing to pay people a living wage. That's Russia.1:15:30
1 hour, 15 minutes, 30 seconds
That's wickedness.1:15:32
1 hour, 15 minutes, 32 seconds
Wickedness is violence against those who choose to challenge you. Wickedness is1:15:39
1 hour, 15 minutes, 39 seconds
systemic cruelty against those prophets who dare to challenge your injustice.1:15:46
1 hour, 15 minutes, 46 seconds
Wickedness is practical atheism.1:15:51
1 hour, 15 minutes, 51 seconds
When you claim you love God, but your living and your policies are far from God.1:15:59
1 hour, 15 minutes, 59 seconds
And wickedness is when a man in his pride1:16:06
1 hour, 16 minutes, 6 seconds
says he has no room for God, but he has room for killing.1:16:13
1 hour, 16 minutes, 13 seconds
He has room for war. He has no room to give daycare for poor children, but he's got room for injustice.1:16:21
1 hour, 16 minutes, 21 seconds
The Bible says in Psalm 10:4, that's wickedness.1:16:26
1 hour, 16 minutes, 26 seconds
Greed and boasting about your greed and paying folk off is wicked.1:16:35
1 hour, 16 minutes, 35 seconds
What do you do?1:16:38
1 hour, 16 minutes, 38 seconds
Not just when the nation has some failures, cuz we've already had failure.1:16:44
1 hour, 16 minutes, 44 seconds
Not just when the nation has some troubling politicians because we've always had some troubling. Not when the1:16:51
1 hour, 16 minutes, 51 seconds
nation has imperfect presidents because we've always had imperfect president.1:16:57
1 hour, 16 minutes, 57 seconds
But what do you do when you have a president and a movement that every minute violates the six things that God hates?1:17:11
1 hour, 17 minutes, 11 seconds
Hey, come on a lying lips,1:17:19
1 hour, 17 minutes, 19 seconds
dividing the community, proud looks, murdering, killing,1:17:28
1 hour, 17 minutes, 28 seconds
wickedness, Russia.1:17:33
1 hour, 17 minutes, 33 seconds
The only response from Washa is you've got to have mass preaching in the public1:17:40
1 hour, 17 minutes, 40 seconds
square that never turns off when you face wickedness. Jeremiah 22 says, "Go down to where the king lives.1:17:52
1 hour, 17 minutes, 52 seconds
Take a wooden yolk and if they break that, put on an iron yolk,1:17:58
1 hour, 17 minutes, 58 seconds
but stand in front of the house and preach the truth.1:18:05
1 hour, 18 minutes, 5 seconds
In order to do that, you got to have mass massive public prophetic revival.1:18:13
1 hour, 18 minutes, 13 seconds
My brother from Sojour, we got to find a way to hook up to have a third not only reconstruction but we awakening.1:18:21
1 hour, 18 minutes, 21 seconds
It's revival time now.1:18:25
1 hour, 18 minutes, 25 seconds
We got to find a way, Adam, to have massive revival, right? Beginning with repentance.1:18:34
1 hour, 18 minutes, 34 seconds
People come out and cry on behalf of the nation and then commit themselves to the things of God. You must have a strategy1:18:42
1 hour, 18 minutes, 42 seconds
of nonviolent resistance, not one-day events. That's why we've done Monday 8. It's not about an event.1:18:51
1 hour, 18 minutes, 51 seconds
Not about how many people come this time but don't come this time. You got to have constant Yeah.1:18:56
1 hour, 18 minutes, 56 seconds
nonviolent
resistance. And then you got to name the vision, the policy that has to
be embraced in order to break the whole of wickedness.1:19:07
1 hour, 19 minutes, 7 seconds
It's not enough to call wickedness wickedness.1:19:10
1 hour, 19 minutes, 10 seconds
You have to have a policy that says, "Here's how we deal with systemic racism.1:19:15
1 hour, 19 minutes, 15 seconds
Here's
how we deal with systemic poverty. Here's how we deal with ecological
devastation. Here's how we deal with denial of healthcare. Here's1:19:22
1 hour, 19 minutes, 22 seconds
how
we deal with the militarization and the of our communities and the war
economy. Here's how we deal with the false narrative religious
nationalism.1:19:30
1 hour, 19 minutes, 30 seconds
And you must demand that these policies be embraced by everybody, not just one party.1:19:39
1 hour, 19 minutes, 39 seconds
In fact, anybody that says the only answer now is to1:19:47
1 hour, 19 minutes, 47 seconds
elect Democrats, you are bowing. Now, now, let me say what I mean by that. I'm not saying you ought we ought not move1:19:55
1 hour, 19 minutes, 55 seconds
some folk out of office. That's another real. But if you think just electing people on being against Trump and they1:20:03
1 hour, 20 minutes, 3 seconds
don't tell you what they're for is the answer, That's what got us here in the first place.1:20:13
1 hour, 20 minutes, 13 seconds
Amen.1:20:14
1 hour, 20 minutes, 14 seconds
And so my brothers and sisters, I shout what my sisters shouted and say what my wife said. We must not bow.1:20:25
1 hour, 20 minutes, 25 seconds
We've got to stand until this war is stopped.1:20:32
1 hour, 20 minutes, 32 seconds
But more importantly, this war mentality is stopped. And I hear somebody saying, "Well, it ain't going to never stop till1:20:40
1 hour, 20 minutes, 40 seconds
the Lord comes." Well, let's stand till then.1:20:44
1 hour, 20 minutes, 44 seconds
If that's what it's going to take for all the rest of your life, be on the side of nonviolence.1:20:50
1 hour, 20 minutes, 50 seconds
The rest of your life, be on the side of peace.1:20:55
1 hour, 20 minutes, 55 seconds
We've got to stand against the abuse of the poor.1:20:58
1 hour, 20 minutes, 58 seconds
We've got to stand until the abuse against children stops. stand until the abuse of the sick stops.1:21:07
1 hour, 21 minutes, 7 seconds
We got to stand until this in the richest nation in the world, people are still working for poverty wages.1:21:15
1 hour, 21 minutes, 15 seconds
And we must stand and we must stand committing to love1:21:22
1 hour, 21 minutes, 22 seconds
forward together. Those of you that are listening at us out here preaching, turning this street into a public pull1:21:29
1 hour, 21 minutes, 29 seconds
pit, uh, we must stand and love forward together by voting together and speaking1:21:36
1 hour, 21 minutes, 36 seconds
up together and admitting our own struggles together. Yes. And claiming that we are not perfect.1:21:46
1 hour, 21 minutes, 46 seconds
One
of the great repentances that you and I have to admit now is if that
impure spirit could get a hold of Trump, it could get a hold of you.1:21:55
1 hour, 21 minutes, 55 seconds
Is there anybody here that will say but for the grace of God?1:21:59
1 hour, 21 minutes, 59 seconds
There go I but for the grace of God. We are in a time when we need some real people. real1:22:07
1 hour, 22 minutes, 7 seconds
people who understand that wickedness ain't nothing to play with.1:22:12
1 hour, 22 minutes, 12 seconds
And
the spirit of wickedness is nothing to play with. And the only thing
that can overpower it is the grace and the love and the power of God.1:22:23
1 hour, 22 minutes, 23 seconds
And it requires not bowing.1:22:26
1 hour, 22 minutes, 26 seconds
But you will never not bow in your own strip.1:22:31
1 hour, 22 minutes, 31 seconds
See, the story that's not told as I close is why Shadrach, Mach, and Abedneo didn't bow.1:22:41
1 hour, 22 minutes, 41 seconds
Y'all don't hear me.1:22:43
1 hour, 22 minutes, 43 seconds
They didn't bow cuz they never accepted their Babylonian name. Y'all don't hear what I'm saying?1:22:51
1 hour, 22 minutes, 51 seconds
That That wasn't their name. That's what Babylonian called them.1:22:55
1 hour, 22 minutes, 55 seconds
But they had been named by their foremothers.1:22:59
1 hour, 22 minutes, 59 seconds
They
had been named by their fore and though Nebuchadnezzar called them
Shedrach and Amach and Abednego, they never accepted their name.1:23:12
1 hour, 23 minutes, 12 seconds
I dare somebody to turn to your neighbor and say, "I'll never accept their name.1:23:18
1 hour, 23 minutes, 18 seconds
My name is not apathy.1:23:22
1 hour, 23 minutes, 22 seconds
My name is not bowing down.1:23:27
1 hour, 23 minutes, 27 seconds
My name My name is not fear. Not fear.1:23:31
1 hour, 23 minutes, 31 seconds
My name My name is not lying.1:23:34
1 hour, 23 minutes, 34 seconds
My name My name is not quitting. Not quitting.1:23:38
1 hour, 23 minutes, 38 seconds
I was named by my mama.1:23:42
1 hour, 23 minutes, 42 seconds
And my daddy and the four parents of the movement.1:23:48
1 hour, 23 minutes, 48 seconds
My name is truthtelling. Truth telling.1:23:51
1 hour, 23 minutes, 51 seconds
My name is courage.1:23:55
1 hour, 23 minutes, 55 seconds
My name is standing in the power of God.1:23:59

My name is filled with the Holy Ghost. My name is a child of the living God.1:24:07
1 hour, 24 minutes, 7 seconds
My name is a lover of humanity. And I choose to stand in my name.1:24:15
1 hour, 24 minutes, 15 seconds
And I stand in the name of the one who made everything, the God of this universe. In that name, we will protest.1:24:26
1 hour, 24 minutes, 26 seconds
In that name, we will not bow.1:24:30
1 hour, 24 minutes, 30 seconds
In that name, we'll never give up.1:24:34
1 hour, 24 minutes, 34 seconds

1 hour, 25 minutes, 3 seconds
Stand in the name of God.1:25:19
1 hour, 25 minutes, 19 seconds
So, now that we know what it takes to stand, and now that we know what it takes to make that commitment not to bow down,1:25:27
1 hour, 25 minutes, 27 seconds
I'm standing over there and I'm listening and I'm receiving and a song fell on me.1:25:33
1 hour, 25 minutes, 33 seconds
So, we're going to build it together right here. How about that?1:25:36

We won't bow down. We won't bow down. We won't bow down.1:25:48
1 hour, 25 minutes, 48 seconds
And then I'll say, "There's no statue, there's no man, there's no policy that can make us bow.1:25:57
1 hour, 25 minutes, 57 seconds
We're telling you now, we won't bow down." Okay, this is a first. So, let's try it. Let's try it.1:26:39

1 hour, 27 minutes, 50 seconds
There's no statue. There's no man. There's no policy that can make us bow.1:28:01
1 hour, 28 minutes, 1 second

1 hour, 30 minutes, 4 seconds
That's how the music of the movement is born.1:30:07
1 hour, 30 minutes, 7 seconds
Now, all of you listening out this week, you ought to be singing that. Yes.1:30:12
1 hour, 30 minutes, 12 seconds

1 hour, 30 minutes, 39 seconds
Actually, it was um where Michael was killed. Um young man was killed. Ferguson.1:30:46
1 hour, 30 minutes, 46 seconds
We went over one day and the folk got angry because they said people came over who were only coming for a picture.1:30:56
1 hour, 30 minutes, 56 seconds
And we asked them, "Then what do we need to do to be welcomed?" And they said, "Would you at least walk around the spot1:31:03
1 hour, 31 minutes, 3 seconds
where his blood still stains?" and show to us that you're not just here for a moment,1:31:10
1 hour, 31 minutes, 10 seconds
but you're here because you care about a movement.1:31:15
1 hour, 31 minutes, 15 seconds
I want to ask if you all would if we could do something three times, this being the starting1:31:24

1 hour, 32 minutes, 13 seconds
